IMPROVEMENT IN COFFIN ATTACHMENTS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,533, dated April 25, 1576; application filed March 13, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SAMUEL A. HUGHES, of Parkers Landing, in the county of Armstrong and Stategof Pennsylvania, have inventeda new and Improved Ooflin Attachment, of which the following is a specification:

My invention consists of a hook attachment to coffins, for lowering them by the ropes or straps, instead of hitting the ropes or straps pass under the coffins. The attachment is to be attached to the handle-plates, but may be attached by an independent plate.

Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved attachment; and Fig. 2 is a section of the attachment and a portion of the side of the coffin, taken on line a: 00.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

A is the plate, Which will be used, in connection with the handle, for an ornament, in

which case the half acorn B will be cast on for a finish to the point of connection of the handle with the plate. G is the hook attachment to the plate, to be used for lowering the ooflin by a rope or strap.

As this attachment will sometimes be preferably attached to the eoffins independently of the handle, the acorn will not he required. I propose to cast the plate, in that case, without the acorn.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The hook attachment mounted upon the handle-plate of coffin, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
