CLARK WATSON BON D, OF DENVER, COLORADO STATIONERY PADDING DEVICE Application filed my 27,
The present invention is directed to improvements in stationery padding devices.
The primary object of .the invention is to provide a device of this character adapted to hold groups of paper sheets tightly clamped for the application of glue to one of the ends of the sheets preparatory to forming into ads. p Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character so constructed that a number of groups of paper'sheets of various widths and heights can be clamped for padding at the same time.
Another object of the invention isto provide a device'of this character which is simple in construction, efficient in operation, durable, and one which canbe manufactured at a very small cost.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel features of construction, format-ion, combination and arrangement of parts tobe hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure '1 is a front view of the device.
Figure 2 is a' sectional view on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a detail sectional view showing the mode of fastening the standards to the presser portions.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary detail perspective view of the lower'end of one of the side bars of the frame. 7
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a frame formedfrom angle iron and bent to provide a horizontal bar 2 and vertical arms 3, the webs of said arms being n split to provide feet 4 adapted to be secured to the bench 5 by screws '6.
A plurality of standards 7 are provided,
' three of which are illustrated, but it will, of
course, be understood that the number of these may be decreased or increased as de- 1928. Serial No. 295,776.
sired. Since the standards are identical in construction a description of one will suffice for all.
The standard is preferably formed from angle iron bent intermediate its ends to pro vide an upper connecting loop '8, the webs being cut away, as at 10,.to permit forming of the loop. The webs 9 are spaced laterally to provide a slot 11 in which is slidably received a clamping bolt 12 carried by the ver- 55 tical web 13 of the bar 2. The lower end of the standard is provided with horizontal flanges 14 which are secured to the presser foot 15 by rivets 16.
Briefly, the operation is as follows:
The paper sheets 17 are placed upon the bench directly under a presser foot and a standard forced downwardly, after which the clamping bolt 12 is manipulated to hold the standard tightly connected with the bar 2. Glue is then applied to the desired ends or sides of the sheets in order to unite them into pad form.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation, and many advantages of the herein described invention will 'be apparent to those skilled in the art, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape and proportion and minor details of construction, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
What is claimed is 1. A device of the class described, com prising a frame for attachment to a bench, said frame including a horizontal bar, a standard form from a single length of metal bent intermediate its ends to provide sides laterally spaced providing a longitu dinal slot, a clamping bolt carried by the bar and engaged in the slot for holding the standard in adjusted position, and a presser foot carried by the lower end of the standard. 2. A padding device comprising aframe formed of angle iron and including uprights and a horizontal bar a standard formed from angle iron doubled upon itself and having the inner Webs spaced apart to provide a slot and disposed against the vertical Web of the horizontal bar, the Web at the fold being cut away to provide a loop, and the terminals of the Web being bent laterally, a piesser foot secured to the bent terminals of the standard, and a bolt passing through the slot of the standard and through the vertical Web of the horizontal bar to secure the standard in adjusted position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
