CLOTHES HANGER Filed Nov. 9, 1927 Patented June .17, 1930 PA ENT DOMENIC M. CAMPANA, OF WILMETTE, ILLINOIS CLOTHES HANGER Application filed November 9, 1927. Serial No. 232,013
This invention relates to a combined hat and coat hanger and has for one of its objects the provision of a device which will support a hat and coat in a position to simulate the form of a person.
A further object of the invention is to provide a hat and coat rack which shall be simple and economical to manufacture and which will attract attention.
A still further object is to provide a device of the class named which shall be of improved construction and operation.
The invention is exemplified in the combination and arrangement of parts shown 15 in the accompanying drawing and described in the following specification, and it is more particularly pointed out in the appended claims. 7
In the drawing Fig. l is a front elevation of one embodiment of the present invention having a hat and coat carried thereby;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a verticalsection showing the manner of attaching two parts of the device together; and V Fig. 1 is a section on line H of Fig. 2.
The numeral .10 designates a supporting plate which may be of any suitable shape, an oval form being illustrated in the drawing. The plate is provided at its upper edge with an eye 11 by'means of which the device may be hung upon a hook or other suitable support 12. A bracket 13 is secured to the plate and projects forwardly therefrom. The plate 10 may have an opening 14 therethrough and the bracket 13 is provided with a tongue 15 which extends into the opening 14 and fits tightly therein. The opening 14 is preferably rectangular in shape to prevent the bracket 13 from rotating. A nail or other fastening device 16 maybe driven through a portion of the plate 10 and the tongue 15 to hold'the plate and bracket together. At its forward end the bracket 13 is recessed, as shown at 17 and a hook 18 is positioned within the recess. A hat support 19 is carried at the forward end of the bracket 13 and preferably of the device holds the upright portion in place on the OFFICE-Y bracket 13. The upright portion 20 may be provided with' a backwardly extending rounded portion 22 for supporting a hat 23 in the manner in which a hat is worn upon a persons head. The portion 22 may be omittedandthe hat placed upon the plate 20 with therear portion resting upon the bracket 13. A screw-eye 2 lor othersup port is attached to the lower face of the bracket-l3 and a coat hanger 2 5 is'suspended from the screw-eye. The hanger 25 is ref: erably located at such a height thatwhen it supports a coat 26' the coat will assume substantially the position of the body of a person having theface represented on the plate 20. i It will be seen from Fig. 1 that when theclothes hanger 'is provided with a hat and coat the assemblage simulates the' upper portion of a persons body. The face on the part20 may-be decorated to appear grotesque orhumo'rous so as to "attract at-- tention.
The device may be used for displaying goods, or may be used as a novelty in public places, such as restaurants, and many other places of use will readily suggest themselves to persons interested in the; art;
I claim a 1. A clothes hanger comprising a horizontally extending bracket, a hat supporting member simulating the head of a person carried at the forward end of said bracket and extending upwardly therefrom, and a coat hanger suspended below said bracket.
2. A clothes hanger comprising a horizontally extending bracket, an upright member simulating the head of a person mounted at the forward end of said bracket for supporting a hat on the upper portion thereof, and a coat hanger disposed below said bracket at a height approximately level with the lower portion of said upright memher.
3. A clothes hanger comprising a plate, means for attaching said plate to a support, abracket secured to said plate and extending forwardly therefrom, anupright member mounted at the forward end of said bracket and having the front face thereof decorated to simulate the faceofa person, and a coat hanger suspended from said bracket for supporting a'coat'in position to simulate the body of the person.
4. A clothes support comprising a horizontally extending bracket having a recess in the forward end thereof, a hookdisposed in said recess, and a hat supporting member having aneye attached thereto for engaging said-hook to connect sai'd hat supporting member with said bracket.
5. A clothes support comprising aiplate, means'for suspending said. plate, a horizontally extending bracket mounted on said plate, a'hat support shaped and decorated to-s'imulate thehead of a person, a hook and eye connection for securing saidhat support to'the forward end of said bracket, an eye attached to the lower side of said bracket, and a coat hanger suspended from said eye.
6. 'A clothes hanger comprising a member simulating the head of a person formed to support'a hat in normal wearing relation thereon, a bracket for supporting said member when said hat is properly disposed on said member to simulate the hatted head of ajperson, and a coat hanger disposed below said member for supporting-a coat in position to simulate the body of a person.
7. A clothes hanger comprising a hori zontally extending bracket, ail-upright member simulating the head of a person mounted at the forward end of said bracket for supporting a hat on the upper .portion thereof, and a coat-hanger carried by and dispose dbelow said bracket at a-height approximately level with the lower portion of said uprightmember.
