Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 28, 1922.
Application filed February 28, 1320. Serial No. 362,144.
To all w/wnt it may concern."
Be it known that l, JQHN ALGERITCOK LAUNDER, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at the city and county of Newcastle-upon 'l yne, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Displaying Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garment-(iisplaying devices, and has for its object to provide an improved device for displaying a garment carried by a garment-supporting shoulder so that the shoulder and the arment carried thereby can be removed from and replaced upon the displaying device without disturbing the latter.
A' garn'ient-displaying device in accordance with this invention comprises a shank which carries a vertical supporting frame provided with a plurality of hooks in front of its upper portion on which loosely rests a garment-supporting shoulder. The shank ot' the device may fit into a socket in the upper end of an upright stand provided with a base to stand upon the floor, or into a socket carried by a wall-bracket.
The supporting frame may be made of strong metal wire or oi. wood or other suitable material.
i. will fully describe my invention with reference wherein Figure 1 is a lront elevation of a garmentdisplaying device in accordance with my invention fitted to an upright stand; and
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Figures and 4c are similar views to Figs. 1 and 2 oi. the device fitted to a wall-bracket; and
Figures 5 Figs. 1 and device.
Referring first to Figs. 1 and 2, the garment-displaying device therein llustrated comprise. a shank (A from which diverge two supporting members 7) extending upwardly and each provided with a hook c at its upper end. in rear supporting member (Z extends between the hooks c. The supporting members b, hooks c and rear supporting member (Z together constitute a vertical supporting :trame and are formed by bending and looping a single piece 01 strong metal wire. A garment-supporting shoulder e rests loosely on the hooks o in front of the rear support ing member d, but is not in any way secured l 6 are part similar views to ant.
- thereto. The shank to the accompanying drawings a modified form of the c fits into a socket j" in an upright stand 9 provided with a base/1. The shank a is rotatable in the socket 7' so that the supporting frame and shoulder can be turned about the axis of said shank to any desired position to display the garment.
he garment-supporting shoulder 6 may be formed of cardboard, three-ply wood, compressed fibre, aluminium or other suitable material, and is formed with a hook j so that, when it is removed from the supporting frame, it can be hung with others on a rail or other like support.
Figs. 3 and 4 show a slightly modified construction of the garment-displaying device of Figs. 1 and 2 wherein the shank a is adapted to fit'into a socket carried by a wall bracket m, the shank a'being bent as shown for this purpose.
In the modified form of garment-displaying device illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6, the
supporting frame is made or similar material, and warolly extending shank p and formed integral of three-ply wood with a shoulder Q which may, if desired, be used to support a garment. Hooks r are attached to the supporting frame and receive the garment-supporting shoulder e which rests loosely on said hooks in front of the shoulder 9. In the construction illustrated, the shank p is adapted to fit into the socket f of the upright stand 9 of Figs. 1 and 2, but, as will be obvious, the shank may be adapted to fit into the socket is of thewall bracket m of F igs. 3 and 4E.
With garment-displaying devices as herein described the garment to be displayed is placed upon the garment-supporting shoulder 6, and the shoulder and garment together'are placed on the hooks'of the display device without it being necessary to handle or crush the garment. play devices may be disposed, for in a shop window, and the garments can be Very quickly arranged and displayed thereon, thus saving a great amount of the'time hitherto required for dressing shop windows. At the end of the day all the garments on their supporting shoulders can be readily removed from the window and A number of the disexample,
