IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-COLLARS.

SCHNEI- DER, of the City, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lamp-Collars; and I d0 hereby declare that the following is a full, elear, and exact description 0f the same, reference being had t0 the aceompanying drawing, whioh forms part 0f this specification:

'lhis invention consists in a novel constructi0n 0f the lamp-collar 1;0 provide f0r the return or running back into the oil-receptac-le 0f ehe lamp of oil escaping 0r overflowing from the burner, and t0 allow 0f the 'escape 0f gases from the oil receptacle or chamber of the la1np, whereby the g1eatest efficiency in these respects is obtained, together with cheapness 0f construction as regards the 001 lar anal freedom from (;l0ggillg 0f th'e apert-ures in the 0011211, which provide for return of the overflow am]. escape 0f the gases.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents an axial section of a lamp-eoliar constructed. in accordance With my invention, and Fig. 2 a top view 0r plan ofthe same.

A is the lamp-collar, whieh may be pressed 01" Span from sheet-metal and having the screw-thread b, intowhich the cap und attached burner are screwed, similarly fonned, but whether thus made 01 otherwise forms 110 part of this invention. Said collar is made shelving downwardly and inwardly at its t0p, as usual in other lamp-collars.

T0 provide for the return 0f overflowing oil from the burner back into the oil-01mm bei of the lamp, and to provide vents for t-he escape 0t' gases genera-ted. in said ohamber, instead ofperforating the collar in the usual manner, by sfi1a1l holes midway between the outer and inner eireumferential portions 0f the collar at its t0p, which holes involve expense to make, am liable t0 010g, and fail to return all the overflowing 0i1 back to the oil-chamber, I provide an y number 0f notehes 01 grooves, c, Clown through the screw-thread b. These notches or grooves 0 might be fonned by autting iuto the metal 0t" th'e screw-thread wheu the metal is 0f sufiicient thickness for the purpose, bat it is proposed t0 make them by simply indenting the metal 0f which the collar is made, and which Will ordiuarily be sufficiently thiu to enable this 110 be done. 'lo facilitate such return of the oil, it is furthennore proposed t0 form radial gutters g, by indentation 01 otherwise, in the t0p surface d 0f the 0011m, and arranged to lead the uotches or grqoves c.

VVhen the burner-cap is screwed iuto the coi1ar, the notches 01 grooves 0 f0rm free ven t:- holes between said cap aud the collar for gases collecting 0r generating in the oil-chamber of the lanup.
