Description
G. W. PERRON AUTOMOBILE DOOR SCREEN May 1-3, 1930.
Filed March 23, 192' Inventor 40152, Bygm Attorney Patented May 13, 1930 PATENT OFFICE GABRIEL W. PERRON, F WILLIMANSETT, MASSACHUSETTS AUTOMOBILE DOOR SCREEN Application filed March 23, 1927. Serial No. 177,669.
This inventionrelates to new and useful improvements in screens, primarily though not necessarily for use in the window openings of closed automobile doors, so that the 6 usual windows may be maintained in lowered position in the summer time, and this without any liability of the entrance of bugs, 1nsects, and the like, which is a great disad vantage encountered in the use of closed auto- 10 mobiles during the summer time.
One of the most important objects of the present invention is to provide a screen for automobile doors, wherein the screen may be readil disposed within the window openll ing of a oor, or as easily removed therefrom,
and whereinmeans is provided for permitting the screen to be rigidly disposed within the door so as to prevent any accidental displacement of the same with respect thereto.
In order to permit of the use of a screen of this character, it is only necessary to provide a single slat in the upper horizontal portion of the door window frame and a pair of small circular openings in the lower horizontal portion of the doorv window frame, and
these at the outer side of the window, so that even though the screen is disposed within the window opening, the window may nevertheless be raised or lowered. A still further object is to provide such a screen that is exceedingly simple in construction, and inexpensive to' manufacture, the same consisting of but few parts and these so co-related as to reduce the possibility of disarrangement to a minimum.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention, resides in the novel features and arrangement of parts as will become more apparent during the course-eithe following detailed description.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application and in which like references designate like parts throughout the views:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary outside elevation of a conventional closed automobile door, the window opemng thereof belng constructed.
glass panel slidably arranged within the 7 body of the door,.and adapted to be moved upwardly into position within the window opening to close the same.
In carrying out my invention, the lower horizontal portion of the window opening B is formed at spaced points with a pair of small circular openings aa, while the upper horizontal portion of the window portion is formed intermediate said openings aa with a longitudinal slot 6 arranged over which is a latch keeper plate 0. My improved screen per se consists of a wooden, metallic or other material frame 5, similar in shape to that of the window opening B of the door A and of slightly lesser diameter than said opening. Arranged around the edges of this frame 5 is a suitable packing 6, so as to provide aItight joint between the frame 5 and the window opening when the screen is disposed therein. As clearly'indicated in both Figures 2 and 3, the openings a c z and bare at the outer side ofLthe; glass panel 0, the lower edge of the frame 5 beingequippedwithapair of dependingpins77- for engagement within the openings aa of the door window openingB. Arranged within the upper edge of,
the frame 5 intermediate the pins 7-7 and -operable from the interior of the automobile by a suitable key is a swinging latch 8, the latch member of which is adapted to be swung into the slot b,;as well as the slot in the keeper 0. in the upper horizontal portion of the window opening for cooperation with the pins -77 so as to rigidly maintain the screen within the window opening.
Arranged over the opening in the frame 5 at the outer side thereof is a strip of wire 2 1,75a,e4e
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. In a means for securing a screen in an automobile door window frame wherein one side of the window frame is formed with an elongated slot, a slotted keeper plate secured over said slot, and a vertically swinging key controlled latch arranged in a pocket provided therefor in the adjacent side of the screen, the free end of said latch adapted to swing outwardly of the side edge of the screen and engage in the slotted keeper plate.
2. In a screen for automobile door windows, a frame constructed for disposition Within the window opening of the door, said frame being provided at the top, bottom and sides thereof with a packing strip, said packing strip constituting means for retaining said top, bottom and sides of the screen out of engagement with the adjacent portion of the window opening, retaining means carried by said frame at the bottom thereof for engagement with the lower surface of the window opening, said last mentioned means being disposed to one side of the packing strip, and akey controlled member carried by said frame at the top thereof adapted to be received into a slot in the upper horizontal surface of the window opening.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
GABRIEL W. PERRON.
