BLADE Hemert Application lled November 28, 1927.v `Seriallfl': 236,220. Y
This invention relates to blade holders and has for its object to provide a device of the above described class of two part construction possessing strength and durability for 5 holding the Well known Gillette and similar razor blades to produce'a knife, for general "use where a keen, 'sharp edge is desirable.
Important features of construction are present in the formation of the parts going to make up the complete article, said parts comprising a handled head having a unitary lock tongue bent outwardly from the body of said head and then upwardly, the flast named portion being slightly upwardly and outwardly.
divergent relative to the plane of said head so that a guard plate may be readily slipped or passed thereover andforced down onto the outwardly bent portion or shank thereof, the l guard plate being provided with suitable openings to receive the lock tongue and a pair of outturned lugs for ymaintaining ythev razor bladein proper position. Another feature of the invention resides in the angularity of the handle portion relative to its unitary head, said handle being disposed at a proper obtuse angle to the longitudinal center of said head'so that when using theholder, the edge of the blade will be suby stantially parallel with they face of the object to be cut, thus eliminating to a great extent the possibility 'of penetrating too far when opening a package and damaging the contents, as for instance, when opening a corrugated paper cartonV now generallyemployed for packing. purposes.k v v Y The angularity of the handle with respect to the head of the device tends to cause the blade to enter the object lso that the penetration will be substantially uniform throughout its length, thus reducing Vto a great extent breakage of blades in use and to further pro tect the blades I preferably carry the `free edges of the head and the guard or .clamp -plate ratherclose to the cutting edgeof the D said blade, leaving but a 'small portion thereof unprotected against side strains. y
The invention possesses other advantageous features which will be set forth in the follow; ing description and it will be understood that the configuration and arrangement of the employed...

Referring to the drawings.` in detail, :the ftherhelder parts or portions are preferablysta'rnpedpr messed-freirnsheetjnetal, the handle beine' numeral 1.1.10 designates .the head@ preferably strengthened by turning up a marginal flange 12 which is continued along the head 10 to provide a short end flange or shoulder 13and a finger ledge 14 on which pressure may be exerted by the thumb or lingers 53 l when using the holder, said ledge having a short extension 15 formed with a bead 16 for the purpose heri'nafter described. i
The head 10 is further formed with a flange or shoulder 17 at the end opposite the shoulder 13 and vin carrying out my invention, I y f stamp' a lock tongue 18 anda pair of lugs 19 from the body of said head. The lock tongue offstanding divergent relation withthe plane of the said head to provide a space for blade 24 and a guard or clamp plate 22, see 6.
The Vguard plate corresponds to the gen-W eral shape of the head 10 and is formed with' .'ffl
a spring `finger piece 28, having a bead 24: to
,y oo-'act Awith the bead 16 of the head 10 to lock the partsche finger piece also being provided with an upstanding terminal lug 25 against which the thumb or finger may be Y pressed when disengaging the parts and The guard plate 22 isV further provided Y with an opening 26 and parallel slots 27 to receive the lock tongue 18 and the lugs 19 respeetively when the parts areassembled in Y looked condition.
vThe extension of the head 10 may, if desired, be formed with a slot 28 to oo-aot with Vthe bead24 of the guard plate 22, likewise the inger piece 23 of the guard plate may be formed with a slot 29 -to eo-aet with the bead Y *'16 of the headlO to lockA the parts.
In a blade holder Vof the classV described, a -head having a handle disposed at anV obtuse angle thereto,'said head also having a nger ledge providedwith a beaded portion, end
'ianges, a lock-tongue disposed at an angle to Vits plane and parallel lugs, a guardplate having a nger piece to engage the linger ledge of the head and openings to receive the said lock tongue and lugs of the head for the purpose set forth. In rtestimony whereof, IA have signedA my Y name to this specification this 5th day of No-v vember, 1927. l v
