After the blades, without disconnecting and separating passage of the terminal 18 of the tongue the arms. 7 through the opening 19, the inherenttend- W0 ency of the arms to re-align themselves moves the edge 20 of the slot under the tongue terminal 18 to maintain the aws 13 and 14 in substantally flat engagement with each other, while the portions of the arms having the tongue 17 and opening 19 inherently spring apart a limited distance due to the fact that the length of the tongue from its juncture with the arm 11 to its terminal 18 is greater than the thickness of the material from which the arm 10 is constructed.
Under this construction and arrangement, when pressure is exerted at a point intermediate the length of the arms to advance the arms toward each other to the position illustrated in Figure 3, the arms at the portions joined by the tongue 17 are first brought into engagement and with this as a fulcrum point further pressure on the arms efiects a relative separation of the jaws 13 and 14; which is suflicient to dispose the inner surface of the jaw 13 above the free ends of the studs to allow for the insertion or removal of the blade B. When it is necessary to separate the arms and jaws for the purpose of cleansing the same to remove foreign matter collected thereon, pressure is exerted on the arms intermediate their length to initially cause the upper surface of the arm 10 to be disposed out of frictional engagement with V the under surface of the terminal 18 of the tongue and to separate the jaws 13 and 14 sufficiently that the sides 16 will be out of contact with the openings 15, thus permitting lateral movement of the arms until the edge of the slot 20 is disengaged from under the terminal 18. It will thus be seen that in practice, with the blade in place between the jaws, the arms 10 and 11 together with the bight 12, form a convenient handle for using a discarded razor blade as a scraper or cutting implement for various other purposes than as a shaving medium, and that due to the interlocking engagement of the studs and openings 15 and the tongue and opening 17 and 19, accidental separation or release of the blade is precluded.
What is claimed is:
, A blade holder for perforate blades, cut, bent and formed from a single sheet of resilient material to provide a pair of arms joined at one end by a curved bight, the free end portions of the arms defining laterally disposed blade clamping jaws, one of which is provided with integral studs and the other with apertures, said studs adapted to extend 7 through the blade perforations and engage in the apertures of the other jaw, and integrally formed interengageable means at the juncture of the arms with the jaws comprising an upstanding tongue having a laterally projecting terminal upon one of said arms, said other arm having an opening of a size to receive said tongue for maintaining said jaws .in clamping relation and for permitting a Signed at College Point, in the county of Queens and State of New York, this 28 day of May, 1928.
