Description
Patented Mar. 9, 1926.
UNITED STATESA LEON M. ALBERTY AND WILLIAM J. FRANK, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNORSY 4PATENT l.
TO RAZOR BLADE KNIFE COMPANY, F MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, A. CORPORATION OF WISCONSIN.
BLADE HOLDER.
Application filed October 19, 1920. Serial No. 417,882.
T0 all whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, LEON M, ALnn'rY and VVlLLiAM J. FRANK, both citizens of the United States, and residentsv of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blade Holders; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear and exact description thereof. f
Our invention relates to blade holders, and more particularly to a device for vholding a safety razor blade or the like so that the same may be used for all purposes to which a pocket knife is adaptedto be used.
When a razor blade is too dull for use in shaving it is still sharper than the average pocket knife, and it is an object of my inventionto provide a holder for the same by means of which it may be held and used the same as an ordinary pocket knife, thus utilizing for this purpose the blades which have hitherto been thrown away.
A further object of 4he invention is provide a holder which is especially adapted to hold any one of the various styles of razor blades now foundv on the market.
In order to more fullyv understand our invention, reference will be'made to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fi ure 1 represents a plan view with a part roken away to show the construction more clearly.
Figure 2 represents a side-elevation of the .35 invention with a part shown in section.
Figure 3 is a Sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3, but showing another style of blade.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the various views.
The device comprises a handle 5, formed of a fiat piece of metal folded upon itself with the two sides spaced apart to form a space 6 therebetween, the two sides being held in position by a rivet 7, which also forms a pivot for the clamping members-8 to i and 9 which are adapted to clamp a blade between them.
The member 8 has at its end a. lip 10, which is folded over the end of the member 9 and tensioned so as to -bear against the same. The back edge of the member 8, has afiange extending over the back of the member 9. The kinner sides of the members 8 and 9, are provided with recesses 12 and 13, respectively, which may be formed by stamping Ior otherwise, 'as desired. The two clamping members 8 and 9 are of a size to fit one of the types-of blades commonly found on the market, this type being shown at 14 in Figures 1 and 3.
The recesses 12 andl?) are provided for receiving the reinforced back of another type of blade 15, as shown in Figure 4. The handle 5 is cut away at 16 for'the purpose of permitting the knife t0 be readily opened.
The back 17 of the handle 5 forms an abutment against which the flange 11 abuts when the'knife is open.
Having thus described our invention, what we desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is.: v
l. A razor blade knife for utilizing razor blades of standard form, said knife comprising blade clamping leaves for embracing and retaining the razor blade in position with one edge exposed, a substantially flat handle forming an envelope for receiving and enclosingl said clamping leaves and blade, a pivotal connection between said handle and clamping leaves in close proximity to one end of said blade permitting said leaves to swing relative to saidhandle and to each other, and means adjacent the other end of said blade for normally maintaining a blade clamping pressure between said leaves.
blades 'of standard form, said knife comprising blade clamping leaves for embracing and p retaining the razor blade in position ,with one edge exposed, a substantiallyl flat handle forming an envelope for receiving and en- Closing said clamping leaves and blade, a pivotal connection between said handle and leaves in elose proximity to one end of said blade permitting said leaves to swing rela 5 tive to said handle and to each other, a flange at one edge of one of said leaves adapted to abut an edge of the other leaf, and a lip at one end of one of said leaves adapted to overlie the other o't' said leaves and to apply pressure therebetween.
In testimony that We elaim the foregoing We have hereunto set our hands at Milwaukee, in the eounty of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin.
LEON M. ALBERTY. VILLIAM J. FRANK.
