Description

March 25; 1936. H. b. ZIQEBURTZ 1,7
. CLOTHES LINE CLAMP OR HOLDER Filed July 8, 1929 mvEm-bn fiemyC. Z z'eburtz ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 25, 1930 UNITED' STATES PATENT DFFICE HENRY G. ZIEBURTZ, OF CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OHIO CLOTHESLINE CLAMP HOLDER Application filed July 8, 1929. Serial No. 376,625.
tion; Fig. 2 is a side elevation; Fig. 3 is a rear elevation; Fig. 4 is a section on the line 44 of Fig. 1; Fig. 5 is a detail in perspective of one of the clamping members.
The device comprises a stamped or embossed back plate 6 with a flange 7 around the edge which seats against the wall or surface to which the plate may be fastened by screws or nails driven through holes 8. At the center the plate has aslot or opening 9 stamped or cut therein, with upper and lower tongues 10 projecting rearwardly at the ends of the slot, and at the sides of the slot the metal is pressed forwardly or embossed as indicated at ll to form bearings for the pivot pin 12 by which the clamping members are fixed in position, the tongues 10 also assisting in holdingthe parts in place as will hereinafter appear.
There are two clamping members illustrated, and each consists of body or plate 13 having a handle arm 14 at the top which is ofiset laterally from the plate 13 as indicated at 15. At the lower end of the plate is a laterally oifset foot 16, and at the rear edge of the plate is an ear 17 having a hole 18 which receives the pivot pin 12. These clamping members may be struck up cheaply from sheet metal and the arms 14 are offset right and'left to form a V-notch or space between the arms when they are put in place.
In assembling the parts the cars 17 ofthe two clamping members are inserted side by side through the slot 9, and the pivot pin 12 is inserted through the holes 18. The tongues 10 may then be tapped in against the ends of the tongues to seat the pivot pin in the recesses of the bosses 11 thereby confining the same and preventing the accidental loss of the pin.
In the use of the device a clothes line or the like is brought up under the foot 16 and I around behind the arm 141 the pull on which binds the line between'the foot 16 and the front of the plate 6. Two lines can be attached, one under each member.
I claim:
A line holder comprising a back plate having a slot and recesses at the rear beside the slot, a clamping member having an ear projecting through the slot, and a pivot pin extending through the ear behind the plate and seated at its ends in said recesses, the plate having tongues at the ends of the slot, projecting behind the plate and pressed inwardly to confine the ear.
In testimony whereof, I do alfix my signature. 1
HENRY C. ZIEBURTZ.
