UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE OSCAR J. CASE AND EDWIN R. RICHARDSON, OF AUBURN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN BJl'ZiAL-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,030, dated March 21, 1876; application filed February 5, 1876.
To all whom it may concern p Be it known that we, OSCAR J. CASE and EDWIN R, RICHARDSON, of Auburn,'in the county of Cayuga, and State of New York, have invented a new'and Improved Burial- Oase, of which the following is a specification:
I to guide projections at the outside of the case.
The handles or knobs are made in one piece with the sides of the case.
In the drawing, A represents a burial-case or coffin, made entirely of glass, with bottom and sides of one piece, and the end sections fitted to slide in grooves of the sides, or to interlock by recessed edges and a glass molding over the joint, to make the case air-tight. The
top or cover B of the case is made in two sections, 0, that overlap each other, and have a lateral glass molding to close the joint. Each section 0 of the cover is fitted tightly to the case, and secured thereto by lugs a, that project at right angles from the section in downward direction to enter guide projections b at the outside of the case, and be fastened thereto by pins passing through perforations of the guides and lugs. The glass case A is further provided with knobs or handles 01, cast in one piece with the sides, so that they can be used with or without metallic handles, as7=tlesired.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improvement in glass-burial-cases or coffins, the combination of the body of the case, having outer guide projections, with the sectional top or cover, secured by downwardprojecting lugs and fastening-pins, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
OSCAR J. CASE. EDWIN R. RICHARDSON.
