The invention includes a novel anchor element provided with means for retaining the,
same embedded within the earth. Theprincipal object of the invention is to provide an I 10 anchoring element for brace members which I will efficiently withstand a tremendous stress. Another object of importance is to provide a brace of this character which will not only be efficient in use, but because of its brief construction is capable of being manufactured at a very low cost.
These and other'objects of the invention will become more apparent to the reader after considering the invention as described and claimed hereinafter;

As is shown i Figures 6 and 7, a tool is provided for forming a bore in the earth,'to receive the novel 'anchoring element. This tool comprises a shank 11 of suitable length, and an enlarged substantially circular head 12'on the lower end of the shank provided with a cutting edge 13. In Figures 1 and 2, a'tool is shown for in- I serting the anchoring element into the bore formed by the tool described above. This in- J serting'tool consists in construction of a rod 14 of sufiicient length. The rod is bifurcated at itsv lower end to provide a pair of legs 15-15, I between which the anchoring ele-' ments may be engaged prior to the forcing of f the same downwardly within the bore formed 8 in the earth.
As is shown in Fig. 1, the plate 3is inserted 7 into the ground bore in'the position whereby after the tool 14 has been removed, a pull on the strand 7 will twist the plate so that A the fins 55, are disposed at right angles to the direction of the earth bore, and by sulficiently pulling on the strand 7, the fins will bite into the earth and provide a positive It may also be desirable to first pour water intothe bore so that after the plate has been swung bya pull on the strand 7, the fins 55 I will bank against the soft earth within the bore, thus compressing the earth immediately 10b above the fins to increase the efliciency of the anchor.

Having described the invention, What is claimed as new is:
An anchor of the character described comprising a plate having an opening therein, a guy member secured to said plate, through said opening, said plate having its intermediate portion struck out to provide a pair of oppositely disposed fins spaced in such a manner as to provide a guide for a driving tool.
