Description

A. I. MCCOLL PAPER HOLDER Filed March 25, 1927 A /NVENTOR H/C/u'baZd I. MCCOZZ A TTORNE BY wg Patented Feb. 25, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT ori-fici:
PAPER HOLDER Application filed March 26, 1927.. Serial No. 178,568.
My improved paper holder is especially designed for h olding sheets or wrapping paper although desirable for use 1n holding sheets of any character which it is deslred to support so that they may be readily withdrawn one by one.
The main objects of my invention are:
First, to provide an improved paper holder which provides an effective shipping package effectively protecting the sheets.
L econd, to provide an improved paper holder which supports the sheets so that they may be conveniently grasped and removed one at a time.
Objects relating to details and economies of construction and operation of my invention will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
The invention is defined and pointed out 30 in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodi ment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, in Which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of my improved paper holder or carton With a body of sheets therein adjusted for shipment or storage.
Fig. 2 is a vetrieal central section on a line corresponding to line 2 2 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on a line corresponding to line 3 3 of Figs. 2 and 4.
Fig. 4 is a rear elevational view.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the carton blank.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the carton 35 or holder blank with a body of sheets laid thereon partially folded.
In the drawing similar reference characters referto similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawing, my iniproved carton or holder is formed ot' an integral blank, as illustrated, and comprises a rear wall 1, bottom wall 2, front wall 3, and a top wall 4, the top wall being narrower than 45 the bottom wall so that its rear edge is spaced from the rear wall, as shown in Fig.
' The rear, bottom, front and top Walls are formed as a continuous strip of uniform width.
The front Wall 3 is extended at its ends into end walls 5 Which terminate in flaps 6 which are folded upon and secured to the rear Wall as by means of adhesive strips 7 (see Fig. 4).
The bottom wall 2 has end flaps 8 Which are turned upwardly and are embraced by the end walls, thereby closing the package at the bottom and also making a very secureor rigid structure.
rlhe top wall is provided with an inwardly projecting Hap-like extension 9 which engages Within the fold or bight of a body of sheets, as l0, folded upon itself, with the inner ends of the sheets arranged between this extension 9 and the front wall, and the outer ends of the sheets projecting between the inner edge of the top and the rear Wall, as shown in Fig. 2.
Owing to the folding of the sheets upon themselves their projecting ends are fanned, as shown in Fig. 2, so that they may be conveniently grasped.
The extension 9 serves as a sheet holder and engages Within the bights of the sheets so that they may be withdrawn one bv one.
To further retain and support the sheets within the. holder and to receive the pulling stress, l provide the rear wall withextensions ll having sheet engaging flap portions 12 which are 'folded or engaged within the bight of the sheets whereby they are ell'ectively retained in the holder and these sheet engaging members coacting with the sheet holding member f) in supporting the sheets.
The rear wall 1 preferably extends above the top wall and is provided with an eyelet 13 from which it may be. suspended. 'lhe back also has an extension flap 14 which may be folded over the projecting ends of the sheets, as shown in Fig. 1, thereby providing a suitable closure and protecting means for the ends ofthe sheets, this liap being engaged within the rear edge of the top 4, as shown in Fig. 1. I
The holder may be placed wherever convenient, that is. it may be suspended or set upright or laid in various positions as may be convenient.
My present improvements are an adaptation of, and in some respects, an improvement upon the structure shown in my application for Letters Patent filed October 3, 1925, Serial No. 60,192.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let'- ters Patent is:
1. A paper holder comprisin rear, bottom, front, to and end walls, t e rear and front walls bein diverged downwardly, t-lie end walls exten ing from the edges of said front wall and having securing fla s overlapping and secured to said rear wa l, the bottom having flaps projecting upwardly within the end walls, the inner edge of said top wall being spaced from the rear wall and having an inwardlyprojecting flap at its inner edge ada ted to en a e within the fold of a body of s eets fol e upon itself, the rear wall having sheet engaging members extending forwardly from its vertical edges and provided with inturned flaps disposed within the fold of a body of sheets.
2. A paper holder comprising rear, bottom, front, top and end walls, the rear and front walls being diverged downwardly the inner edge of said to wall being spaced from the rear wall and aving an inwardly projecting flap at its inner edge adapted to engage within the fold of a body of sheets folded upon itself, the rear wall having sheet engaging members extending forwardl from its vertical edges and provided wit inturned flaps disposed within the fold of a body of sheets.
3. A paper holder comprising rear, bottom, front, to and end walls, the rear and front walls being diverged downwardly, the inner edge of said top wall being spaced from the rear wall and having an inwardly projecting flap at its inner edge ada ted to engage within the fold of a body o sheets folded'upon itself, the rear wall beine extended above the to wall and havin a ap at its upper edge adx; ted to be folde over the projecting ends of eets and engaged within the rear edge of the top wall. v
4. A paper holder comprising rear, bottoni, front, to and end walls, the rear and front walls being diverged downwardly, the end walls extending from the edges of said front wall and having securing flaps engaging said rear wall, the bottom having flaps projecting u wardly within the end walls, the inner e ge of said top wall being spaced from the rear wall, the rear wall having sheet engaging members extending forwardl from its vertical edges and rovided wit portions dis sed within the old of a body of sheets fol ed upon itself.
5. A paper holder comprising rear, bottom, front and top walls, the rear and front walls being diverged downwardly, the inner edge of said top wall being spaced from the rear wall, the rear wall having sheet engaging members extending forwardly from its vertical edges and provided with rtions disosed within the fold of a bo of sheets olded u on itself, the rear wallI being extended a ove the to wall and having a flap at its upper edge ada ted to be folded over the projectin ends o sheets.
6. A paper older comprising rear, bottom, front and top walls, the rear and front walls being diverged downwardly, the inner edge of said. topl wall bein spaced from the yrear wall and aving a ownwardly projectin sheet holder flap at its inner edge adapte to engage within the fold of a body of sheets folded upon itself, the rear wall having sheet engaging members extendin forwardly from its vertical edges and rovi ed with inturned portions disposed wit iin the fold of a body of sheets.
7. A paper holder comprising rear, bottom, front and top walls, the rear and front walls being diverged downwardly, the inner edge of said top wall bein spaced from the rear wall, the yrear wall avin sheet engaging members extending forwar ly from its vertical edges and provided with portions disposed within the fold of a body of sheets folded upon itself. l
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my]A hand. l
ARCHIBALD I. MCCOLL.
