Description
.D. JACKSON. FOLDING-BOXES.
Patented March 14, 1876.
JNITED' STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID JACKSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN FOLDING BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,820, dated March 14, 1876; application filed December 8, 1874. I
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DAVID JACKSON, of Chicago, in the county of (look and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Boxes; and I do hereby declare the following to be' a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in a box formed of a series of longitudinal slats permanently secured to a flexible lining, and a flexible bottom attached to the box thus formed, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, Figure 1 is a side view, and Fig. 2 an end view ortop View, of my folding box, showing the same in circular form. Fig. 3 is an end view of the box, showing the same folded. Figs. 4 and 5 are end views, 'showin g the box respectively in square and rectangular form.
The body A of my folding box is formed of a series of longitudinal bars or slats, a a, which are glued or otherwise permanently attached to a flexible lining, b, of any suitable material. This allows thebox to be folded flat, as shown in Fig. 3, when not in use, and when desired for use it can be made to assume any shape required, such as circular, square, rectangular, triangular, 85c.
e is the bottom of the box, made of any suitable flexible material, and fastened to the inside of the body A. The bottom ebeing flexible admits of the box assuming any form required.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A folding box, composed of the bars orv slats a, flexible lining b, and flexible bottom 8, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
