Description

Jan. 14, 1930. c. ZICKMANTEL EYE PROTECTOR Filed July 21. 1928 bu IIII 2 ing 4 19' 72777 010) [y PS- Patented Jan. 1 4, 1930 PATENT OFFICE CARL ZIOKMANTEL, OI BERLIN, GERMANY EYE PROTECTOR Application me m 21, 1928, Serial No.
My invention relates to eye protectors which keep away light from the eye without interfering with the circulation of the air in the region which they cover.
To this end I so design my eye protector that on "the one hand it is opaque and on the other is permeable for air.
The object of my novel allow the wearer to sleep uring the day time in the open air, or 'to sleep in rooms from which the light cannot, or not to av suflicient extent, be excluded.
. My protector may be designed as a single cap for both eyes or as two caps, one for each eye, which are connected'by a stay, as
m spectacles or in apince-nez. Any suitable means may be provided for holding the protector on the head of the wearer.
In the accompanying drawin a protector 2 of the spectacle type with a rub er strap for holding it on the wearers'head, is illustrated by way of example.
In the drawing Fig. 1 is an elevation. of the protector, F1 2 is a plan view thereof, with the cap or the left eye shown in section.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional de- 7 tail view.
As will appear from the drawing the-pro- 30 tector comprlses two caps 1 of considerable depth and preferably elliptical configuration which are so made at the edges as to fit the head in the vicinit of theeyes and to permit opening and c osing of the eyelids, and may be of any opaque substance, as black celluloid, tightly woven wire or horse hair, stiff fabric, etc. 2 are perforations for per mitting circulation of theair and preventing unpleasant heating of the eyeswhich i may be provided in the front and side walls of the capsi'n any desired position, 1 is a lining of an op ue material as tightly woven black silk, oi* the like which will not interfere with'the circulation of the air, and 3 is a packing secured to the edge of the caps which may be a stri of .velvet, rubber, chenille, or any other so and flexible material which absolutely prevents access of light at the rims of the caps. v
4 is a stay of rubber or the like connectrotector is to 7 294,503, and in Germany August 3, 1927.
ing the caps 1, and 5, 6 are bands of rubber secured to the caps opposite the stay 4 and provided with a hook and an eye 7 or any other suitable connecting means.
The caps *1, 1 are applied to the eyes and the bands 5, 6 are placed about the back of the wearers head and connected by the hook and eye 7. Instead, each cap may be equipped with a resilient loop or an. arm of the kind which is used in spectacles, these parts being held by the ears of the wearer in the usual manner, or a clamp like that of a pince-nezmay be provided for holding the protector on the wearers nose.
Instead of two separate caps, 1, 1, a single cap or resilient tie may be provided for covering both eyes which obviously, like separate caps, must be so deep as not to interfere with the movement of the eyelids, and is equipped with means for shutting out the light and permitting air circulation, and with fastening means as described for the.
separate caps. This modification has not been illustrated as it will readily be under- 'stood.
The. protector which is preferably made of a material that is notliable to break, and possesses minimum weight, is readily folded so that it can conveniently be carried in the pocket.
I claim: An eye protector comprising a palr, of
perforated caps of substantially rigid material adapted for' covering the eyes, a connection between the caps, an opaque and an permeable lining arranged on the inner surface of each cap for covering the perforations in the -cap to revent light rays pass-, ing through the per orations yet perm ttlng ofthe passage of air therethrough, and an elastic packing on each capl. between the outer edge of the rim and t e l1n1ng, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof have signed my name to this specification.
CARL ZICKMANTEL.
