My invention relates-to an improved bottlestopper, that is easily opened and closed, and reta'ined when in open position in such manner that it does not interfere with the pouring out of the contents of'the bottle.
The invention consists of a stopper applied by an eye to an extension of the wire neck hand, and closed by a yoke or bail that slides in a curved slot of the stopper cap-piece, the yoke being centrally indented or bent, to carry ihe stopper in position by the mere action of the yoke.
1n the drawing, A represents the bottle; 13, the wire neekband, which is extended in upward direction, and twisted to form an eye, ii, at a level with the mouth of the bottle. The cast metallic cap-piece D of the stopper is applied by an eye, a, at its circumference, lothe neck-hand extension B, so as to swing readily therein into open or closed position by the action of the yoke or bail U. The
yoke G is pivoted in the customary manner to the neck-baud, whose extension-B is midway between the pivot-points of the yoke. The
cap-piece D is cast at the top part with a raised piece, b, having a curved recess or slot, (I, for guiding the yoke. The shoulder b and slot 61 extend from the eye a in radial direction over the cap-piece to a point slightly beyond the central axis of the stopper, for the purpose of admitting the carrying of the yoke beyond the center point, and produce thereby the secure closing of the stopper without danger of getting released by handling or otherWise. Thecap-piece D is provided with a rubber disk or'stopper, D, of any suitable shape, for tightly closing. the bottle when pressed into the month by the conical bottom part of the eap and the yoke pressing in'the same. The yoke G is'outwardly bent or indented at the central part that slides in the curved slot of the stopper, which bend gives the great advantage of closing the bottle directly without first setting or adjusting the stopper on the neck of the same, whether the When thestopper is opened by carryiiig back the yoke, the stopper is swung hack on theneekband extension, as shown in Fig. 3, and held in'that position, being prevented from interfering with the pouring out of the contents by dropping forward over the mouth 0r dangling around the same, as is the case with a number of stoppers in use.
The yoke may also be placed overthe top of the raised shoulder or piece of the stopper, if desired, and retained by a projecting stud at the. end of the same, so as to dispense with the guide recess or slot; but, as in this case the yoke would swing clear of the stopper, and not assist in retaining the same in open position, the construction of the cap with a guide-slot for the guide-yoke is superior and preferable.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure byLetteI-s Patent 1. In abottle-stopper, the combination of the stopper, having raised and slotted toppiece, with the swinging yoke and the extension of the wire neck-band, to operate substantially as shown and described.
2. The stopper, having an eye at the side, to be applied to the extension of the neckband, as specified.
ADOLPH LUTHY.
