This invention relates to an anchor device designed particularly for use in connection with window frames although the same may be employed for door frames and the like, and has forits primary object the provision of such a device which will securely anchor a frame in position and prevent the same from warping away from the wall in which it is set.
In building construction difficulty is experienced in preventing window and door frames from warping away from the. surrounding wall structure, after they have been put therein, due to the absorption of moisture from the walls before the same are dry.
The present device is designed to overcome this difliculty by anchoring the frame in such a way that it can not come away from the adjacent wall face.
The invention broadly contemplates the provision of a plate, preferably centrally apertured, which is-embedded in the wall and which has an exposed portion which engages the adjacent side of the frame when the same is set in the Wall opening providedtherefore.
This frame engaging portion securely grips the frame and prevents it from drawing away from the wall.
' The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanyingdrawing forming a part of the pres-. ent invention, with the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawings but may be changed or modified so long as such changes or' modificationsmark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims. 0 r v In the drawings:

Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the description of the present invention will be confinedto the structure'shown in Figures 1 to 4 inclusive, wherein the numeral 1 indicates generally the window frame, the inner and outer side plates of which are indicated by the numerals 2 and 8 respectively, the plates being connected by the face plates 4.
The inner face of the inner plate is provided with the usual guide strips 5 between which the sash 6 slides.
The device embodying the present invention comprises the plate 7 the central portion of which is cut away as indicated at 8.
As shown in Figure 3 the plate 7 isof generally elongated rectangular contour and has attached to one end edge, the transversely extending bar 9,Ithe lower edge of which is flush with the lower face of the plate while the top edge extends a substantial distance above the upper face of the plate. secured. This method of positioning the anchor plate arranges the longitudinal edge of the plate inwardly of the inner face of the wall 13 in which it is imbedded so that when the wall is completedno portion ofthe plate plate being indicated as a whole by the numeral 14. j
The anchor 14 comprises a rectangular plate body 15 having a central aperture therein as indicated at 16. This plate has formed across a portion of one end edge a bar 17 one endof which terminates flush with one longitudinal edge thereof asshown in Figure 8 while the otherendv terminates inwardly of the opposite edge. The said opposite edge of the plate is provided with a slot 18 which is, in depth,equal to the distance between the edge and the adjacent end of the bar 17 and open through the end edge against which the.
bar is secured.
Designed to be positioned in the slot 18 is an elongated plate 19, one end of which is pivotally secured between the upper and lower faces of the slot as indicated at 20 thus permitting the plate to be swung to position within the slot or to a position where it extends laterally of the adjacent longitudinal side of the plate 16 as shown in Figures 7 and 8.
The free end of the swinging plate 19 connects with the portion 21 of the angled mem-' ber 22, the other portion 23 of this member projecting from and longitudinally of the swinging plate 19 in the manner shown. From this it will be readily understood that when the swinging plate 19 is moved to position in the slot 18 the portion 21 of the member 22 will be arranged adjacent the free end of the bar 17 arranging the portion 23 of the angled member in right angled relation to the bar and extending from and longitudinally of the plate 15.
The otherend of thebar 17 is provided with the'angularly extending ear 24 which extends in the samedirection as the portion 23 of the angled member, when the same is closed, thus giving an anchor structure of substantially the same design as that shown and described in connection with the Figures 1 to 4i inclusive.
As shown in Figure 5, the plate 15 can be positioned in the wall 25 before the window frame structure which is indicated as a whole by the numeral 26, is placed therein, the outer portion of the wall being provided withthe usual overlapping portion 27 which lies across the outer face of the frame. The inner face of the wall adjacent the edge against whichthe window frame positions, is provided with'the pocket 28 to permit the member 22v to be swung to the open position as shown in Figure7. After the wall has set the frame 26 can then be placed in the openingprovided therefore and the member 22 swung to the position shown in Figure 6 where it may be secured by passing a screw .3
or similar appropriate securing device 29 through the aperture 30 formed in the portion23 of the member. The finishing trim 31 can then be applied to the inner face of the frame, which trim covers the pocket 28 and hides from view the anchor device, the inner longitudinal edge of the plate being arranged inwardly of the portion 23 the same as in the plate 7 so that no part thereof will be exposed from the inner face of the fin- L ished wall 25.
From the foregoing description it will be readily understood that there has been pro-- vided ajmuch needed device for anchoring window frames to the building walls in which they are positioned, particularly walls of stone, cement block, or poured cement'to prevent them from buckling or warping awa from the wall.

1. An anchor device for window and door frames, comprising a plate designed to be imbedded in a building wall, adjacent the frame opening,a bar carried by said plate and exposed in the same opening, engaging elements carried by theanchor for connection with a frame'placed in the opening, and
