Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 4, 1921 Application filed October 18, 1920. Serial No. 417,617.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AARON LEVAUR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Building; Units, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a building slab or unit, its all important object residing in the provision of a concrete or composite unit so constructed as to permit any number of the same to be arranged side by side in constructing a building wall or other like structure.
A further object of the invention is to provide a reinforced concrete or composite slab which is constructed in a frame which serves as means to secure the slab in place and to protect the cement or composite parts against breakage orchipping.
The invention also provides a composite building unit that can be used in any part of a building construction, such as ceilings, walls, roofs, etc., and which will have the appearance of tiling.
It is another object of the invention to provide a composite reinforced framed building slab wherein the reinforcing elements are securely anchored in the frame and the cement or other composition forming the slab bonded or anchored to the frame.
With the preceding and other objects and advantages in mind the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, constructions and arrangement of parts and op eration which will be hereinafter specifically referred to, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a Vertical sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a detail view illustrating the manner of securing the adjacent edges of two of the units in place; and
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary sectional view showing two units of a modified construction in assembled position.
Referring in detail to the drawing wherein like characters of reference designate like parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 denotes a rectangular frame constructed from wood. The outer face of the side and end bars composing the frame is provided with longitudinally spaced ribs 6. Stretched across the frame at the ends thereof are reinforcing'sheets of relatively stout reticulated material 7. Cleats or securing strips 8 are secured upon the outer face of the side and end bars of the frame. These cleats or securing strips are provided with longitudinal ribs 9 which coincide with the ribs 6, the strands of the reinforcing elements which extend parallel to the ribs being received between the grooves 10 afforded by the ribs 6 and 9. The strands of the reinforcing elements extending at right angles to the ribs 6 and 9, due to the softness of the wood, forming the frame, are embedded in the opposed faces of the ribs. Cross pieces 11 extend transversely of the frame adjacent their ends to which the adjacent edges of the reticulated sheet 7 are secured by means of securing strips or cleats 12. The cross pieces 11 and cleats 12 are formed with ribbed faces identical to the ribbed faces of the bars of the frame and cleats 8.
The inner longitudinal edges of the cleats 8 and 12 and the inner longitudinal edges of the side and end bars and the cross bars are beveled toward each other to afford V-shaped grooves 13. Cement or other suitable composition 14 is placed upon the opposite faces of the reinforcing elements 7 At its edges, the cement enters the V-shaped grooves 13 and upon setting forms a bond with the frame 5. The unit or panel herein illustrated is .constructed with a Window opening. In this connection it will be stated that the reinforcing element and its cement filler will extend the entire length of the frame for those parts of the building requiring no door or window openings.
In Fig. 4 I have shown the manner in which the adjacent edges of two of the panels are secured in place by a strip 17 In Fig. 5 a modified construction is illustrated. In this instance the side and end bars of the frame have their upper faces cut away longitudinally to afford a longitudinal groove or recess 18. A cleat or securing strip 19 is received in the groove or recess 18 and is flush with the side or end bar.
The reinforcing sheet 7 is secured in place in the same manner as in the structure disclosed in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herein shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spiritof the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
WVhat I claim, is: V
A building unit comprising a rectangular frame provided with longitudinal ribs in one face Which afford longitudinal grooves therebetvveen, reinforcing sheets of reticulated material stretched across the frame and having its edges disposed upon the longitudinal ribs, securing strips secured upon the frame and provided with longitudinal ribs and grooves coinciding With the first mentioned ribs and grooves, the strands of the reinforcing sheet disposed parallel to the ribs being received in the grooves while the ends of the strands extending at right angles to said parallel strands are embedded in the ribs, the inner face of the frame being provided with a V-shaped groove, and a composite filler on both sides of the reticulated sheet Whose edges set in the V'shaped groove to form a bond With the frame.
