Description

UNITED STATES PATENT EEICE.,
JEREMIAH SKINNER, OF MASN CITY, ILLINOIS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 174,160, dated February 29,1876; application iiled August 19, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JEREMIAH SKINNER, of Mason City, in the county of Mason and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Frame; andI do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to which itpertains to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a windowframe, as will'be hereinafter more fully set forth. f
Inthe annexed drawing, -the ligure is a side elevation, partly in section.
-A represents the window-frame, the side pieces ot' which are made each of one single piece, with vertical grooves on the inner sides, to receive the sa-shes B and C, thus dispensing with the nailing on of the usual strips. For the purpose of inserting and removing v the sashI there is a recess, a, made in the inner -side ot' one of the side pieces of the frame, and this recess is closed by blocks or pieces D D, constructed to overlap each other, as .shown in Fig. 1, and fastened by a single screw, b. By removing this screw the blocks may be taken out, disclosing the recess a, when either sash may be pressed into said recess suflicient to clear the groove on the opposite side, and can then be taken out. The sash are inserted in the same manner, and the blocks then fastened in place.
. Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The window-frame A, constructed in one side with the recess a, and the overlapping pieces or blocksD D, for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
