This invention relates to potential supply means suitable for use in wireless receiving apparatus.
More particularly the invention relates to apparatus for producing substantially nonfluctuating unidirectional potentials suitable for use for supplying operating potentials to thermionic valves and like discharge devlces, and comprising a transformer whose primary winding is arranged to be supplied from a relatively low potential direct current source through the contacts of a vibratory interrupter'actuated by the leakage field of the said transformer, and whose secondary winding is associated with a rectifier having no moving parts (i. e. a static rectifier), and a smoothing element consisting of inductance in spries with and capacity in shunt with the According to this invention the core of the transformer is provided with. a saw cut or small transverse gap, and the vibratory interrupter is so mounted as to be attracted towards that limb of the core in which the said gap is provided.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows one conven- 80 ient arrangement.
Referrin to the drawing, 1 is a terminal adapted to e connected to the positive terminal of a low voltage battery, while 2 is a terminal adapted to be connected to the negative terminal thereof. 3 is the primary and 4 the secondary of a transformer embodied in apparatus of the kind referred to hereinbefore.
l The core 5 of the transformer is cut through at 6 in the limb adjacent a vibratory armature or interrupter 7 which is supported in position by means of a rubber hinge 8. 9 is the adjustable contact breaker associated with the armature 7; 10, 11 and 12 are fixed condensers; 13 is a choke; 14, :15 the cathode and anode respectively of a static rectifier constituted by a rectifying valve, and 16 and 17 the negative and positive output terminals respectively.
It will be seen that the low voltage battery is employed to heat the cathode 14 of the rectifier, and the said cathode is connected through the choke 13 to the positive terminal 17., Since this terminal will in use be con-. nected to the anode or anodes of the valve or valves to be supplied with energy, clearly the low tension battery cannot also beemployed to energize the cathode or cathodes of the said valve or valves.
What we claim is z 1. In combination, a transformer having a primary and a secondary winding, said primary winding carried by a core section provided with a narrow transverse air gap, a vibratory interrupter having its contacts in series with said primary winding and having its operating armature located in the leakage field adjacent said air gap, a rectifying valve in series with said secondary winding, a source of low potential direct current for supplying said primary wind: ing and for heating the cathode of said valve and a smoothin' device in the circuit of the secondary wing mg comprising an inductance in series with said secondary winding and a capacityin shunt across the external load circuit.
