Description

v H. HUDSON.
CHANNELING-TOOL FOR BOOTS AND SHOES. No.173,955, Patented Feb. 22,1876.
WITNES'SLU' IJVV'EJVTOR Mi .d ttorneyy UNITED STATES PATENT OFF CE,
HENRY HUDSON, OF STERLING, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN Cl-IANNELING-TOOLS FOR BOOTS AND SHOES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 173,955, dated February 22, 1.876; application filed January 22, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, HENRY HUDSON, of Sterling, in the county of Whitesi des and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Instruments for Channeling Leather; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an-instrument to be used in preparing the welt for the stitch in the manufacture of boots and shoes, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure l is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
A represents a shank, similar to a screwdriver, secured to the handle B. In the shank A is made a longitudinal slot, a, and one edge is cut down to form the shoulder or oflset b. 0 represents the plowing colter, which is passed'through a slot in the flat head d of a bolt, 01, said head passing through the slot a in the shank, and the whole fastened by means of a thumb-nut, D, screwed on the bolt, as
shown.
The manner of using this instrument is readily seen, and will be fully understood by every boot and shoe maker.
The plowing-colter O can be adjusted as required, both longitudinally and laterally, on the shank, and can be reversed from one side to the other, so that the instrument may be used by a left-handed as well as by a right- In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 5th day of January, 1876.
