This invention relates to a road drag.
The chief object of this invention is to form a road drag of a minimum number of parts and these of substantial construction and so associated together that the drag may be adjusted for the degree of dragging required.
The chief feature of the invention consists in the provision of two convergingly arranged drag members which are connected together at their adjacent ends and which may not only be adjusted to vary the angle therebetween but also may be adjusted to vary the inclination relative to the roadway of each drag member.
Another feature of the invention consists in the construction of the drag such that the drag may be positioned beneath a tractive truck instead of rearwardly thereof as heretofore employed, which insures predetermined positioning without additional guid ance of said drag.
The full nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims:
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a View in perspective of the entire road drag. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective View of the throat end of the drag. Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of the opposite end of one of the drag members and associated parts.
In the drawings 10 indicates a pair of metal railroad rails having the web portions 11 provided with the usual bolt openings near the ends thereof and including the flanged base 12. A pair of chains 13 are attached to the rear portion of a truck and are also attached to the adjacent ends of the angularly arranged rails 10. A pair of chains let are attached to the forward portion of the truck and are attached t0 the forward portion of the device or the more separated ends of the rails.
In the foregoing, it will be noted, there fore, that the drag construction is positioned beneath and moved by a truck and with the throat at the rearward end and the mouth at the forward or front end.
A pair of strap members, each including end portions 15, is secured to the rails as at 16 and an angular extension 17 projects transversely of the rail and curved upwardly there 50 from as illustrated. The angular portion 17 is provided with a plurality of openings 18 and theopenings of the two adjacent members, which are complementary but similar, register and receive retaining members 19.
The width of the throat can be adjusted by this arrangement and also the aforesaid accommodates the inclination adjustmentof the rails or drag members as hereinafter specifically set forth.
The means for maintaining the separated ends of the rails or drag members in spaced and adjusted relation and in inclined relation relative to the surface of the drag is as follows:
A yoke 20 is formed by a pair of strap members which are secured together as at 21,
and one or both may be extended to form a handle portion 22. Each end of the yoke 20 includes an angular or curved portion 23 for clearing the top of the rail and a laterally die verging wing 24 by which the yoke construction is secured to the web of the rail thru suitable means 25. Each arm of the yoke 20 includes a pair of openings 26 and positioned therebeneath and intermediate the same is another opening, not shown, for receiving transversely extending member in the form of a bolt 27. A pin or bearing member 28 is positionable in either one of the openings 26.
Extending thru the yoke construction and j from rail to rail is a bar 29 having at each end an upper series of holes 30 spaced apart the distance that the holes 26 are spaced apart, and a lower series of holes 31 similarly arranged, one of the latter receiving the bolt 27 and one of the former receiving the pin or rod 28.
The spacing of the rails or drag members at the mouth is determined by the positioning of the bolts 27 and pins 28 in the holes 30 and 31. The inclination of the rail relative to yoke, and means positionableiin both series "of openings for adjusting the inclination of the member to the bar. 7
