My invention relates to improvements in couplings for disk plows and the primary object thereof is to provide a practical, inexpensive and reliable coupling for securing two disk plows to- 5 gether in end to end relation.
Another object is to provide a device of the character and for the purpose above set forth which may be readily attached and used on standard types of disk plows without necessitating expensive alteration in the standard construction of such plows.
To the accomplishment of the above, and subordinate objects presently appearing, a preferred embodiment of my invention has been illustrated in the accompanying drawings, set forth in detail in the following description and defined in the claim appended hereto.

Figure 2 is a fragmentary view in top plan illustrating a link, forming part of my improved coupling, and the manner in which it is attached to the gang frame of a plow,
Figure 3 is a view in transverse section taken on the line 33 of Figure 2, and
Figure 4 is a similar view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, l and 2 designate opposite end portions of two disk plows, respectively, of a well known type coupled together end to end. These plows being well understood in the art need merely be briefly described herein. Such plows include a gang frame 3 comprising a pair of laterally spaced front and rear bars, as at 4 and 5, secured together by cross bars as at 6. The disks 1 are mounted on the rear frame bar 5 to trail therefrom and by means of a shaft 8 mounted in bracket arms, one of which is shown at 9, extending from said bar. At the rear end of each plow is a furrow wheel of the usual type, a function of which, as is well known, is to adjust the depth of the furrows formed and which for this purpose is mounted on a vertical shaft-like support ll slidable and rotatable in a casting 12 secured to the rear end of the gang frame 3 in a manner well understood and therefore not illustrated in the drawings. The numeral I3 designates a part of means for securing the casting l2 to the frame 3 and I4 and I a bolt and bolt holes, respectively, in said casting and part for adjustably securing the casting to said part l3. The depth of the furrows is regulated by adjusting the casting l2 vertically on the support II and hence adjusting the frame 3 vertically. Part of the mechanism for adjusting the casting l2 has been indicated at 16 but such mechanism being well known need merely be identified in passing. According to my invention, the casting I2 is formed with a lateral extension ll bifurcated to provide vertically spaced ears l8 forming part of a coupling the other element of which is a bar like link I!) one end of which is pivoted between said ears l8 by means of a vertically disposed headed coupling pin 23 passing through said ears and end. A cotter pin 2| secures the coupling pin 20 in proper position. The other end of the link I9 is connected to the front end of the other plow 2 so that said plow is pulled by said link to trail behind plow I to which said link is pivoted. Preferably the link I9 is connected to the trailing plow 2 between the bars 4 and 5 thereof by bolting said link intermediate its ends, as at 22, on one of the cross bars 6 usually disposed at the front end of the frame 3. The end of the link l9 opposite the pivoted end thereof is similarly secured, as at 23, down onto a cross bar 24 bolted, as at 25, to the frame bars 4 and 5. A similar bar 26 is bolted, as at 21, to the frame bars 4 and 5 to extend over the link I 9 on the opposite side of the bolt 22. The described relation of the bars 24 and 2B and the link l9 provides a strong connection for lifting the front end of the trailing plow 2 by the rear end of the leading plow I when the latter is adjusted upwardly. The described pivoted coupling provides, as will be clear, for turning of the plows either to the: right or left without crowding one or the other and eliminates side draft. The space between the ears 1B is designed to provide a clearance for the pivoted end of the link l9 and the pivotal connection of the link l9 to the coupling bar 20 is loose so that said link may swing up and down on said pin between the ears l8 and thereby permit relative vertical movement of the plows l and 2 as for instance on uneven ground.
The invention, it is believed, will be clear from the foregoing without further explanation.
Manifestly my invention, as described, is susceptible of modification without departing from the inventive concept and right is herein reserved to all such modifications falling within the scope of the claim appended hereto.
What I claim is:
The combination with a pair of disk plows each including a gang frame having a pair of front and rear side bars and one having a rear end furrow wheel and a vertical support therefor, of means for coupling said plows together end to end and including a, bifurcated casting secured to the rear end of the frame of said one plow and vertically adjustable on said support to correspondingly adjust said one frame, a coupling bar pivotally connected at one end in the furcations of said casting, and means to rigidly connect the other end of the coupling bar to the front end of the other plow comprising a pair of superposed plates secured at their ends to the front and rear frame bars of said other plow and receiving said coupling bar therebetween, and a third plate in the rear of said pair secured at its ends to said frame bars and having the other end of the coupling bar fixed thereon.
