Original application July 15, 1937, Serial No. 153,839. Divided and this application April 30, 1938, Serial No. 205,333
2 Claims.
This invention relates to adjustable fiareboards for the mpldboards of plows, the invention being mainly designed for use on snow plows of the features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a topplan view of the upper portion of a plow showing the same equipped with the adjustable flareboards.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary rear view of the upper portion of the plow.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective view of one set of adjusting means.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary front view of one of the moldboards with the fiareboards thereon.
In these drawings the numeral I indicates the pair of moldboards of a V-shaped snow plow and in carrying out the invention I provide a pair of flareboards 2 and 3 for each moldboard. The board 2 is hingedly connected to the upper end of the moldboard as shown at 4 while the two flareboards are hingedly connected together as shown at 5. These fiareboards may be of slightly arcuate shape in cross section with their concave faces foremost. 4 For supporting the fiareboards 2 and 3 at the desired angular position of adjustment relative to one another and relative to the associated moldboard I there are provided for each pair of flareboards 2 and 3 adjustment devices I3 and I4 respectively.
The adjustment device l3 comprises a lug 6 mounted on the rear face of the moldboard 1 adjacent the upper edge of the moldboard while lugs I5 and I6 respectively are provided on the rear sides of the flareboards, as shown in Figure 3.
Pivoted to the lug l5 associated with the flareboard 2 are links I8 and [9.
Link 18 is provided adjacent one end thereof with a series of openings 20 adapted to be selectively aligned with an opening in the lug 6 to receive a bolt 21 through the medium of which the flareboard 2 is secured at the desired position of adjustment relative to the moldboard l.
Link l9 at its free end is provided with a series of openings 22 adapted to be selectively aligned with an opening in the lug Hi to receive a bolt 23 through the medium of which flareboard 3 is held at the desired adjustment relative to its companion flareboard 2.
Theadjustmlent device l4 comprises a lever 24 pivoted at one end to a bracket 25 mounted on a web plate 26 secured at the angle between the moldboards I rearwardly thereof. As best shown in Figure 2 the free end of the lever 24 is provided with a series of openings 21 adapted to be selectively aligned with an opening in a lug 28 on the flareboard 3 to receive a bolt 29 through the medium of which the lever 24 is adjustably secured to the lug 28 to cooperate with the adjustment device 13 for securing the flareboards at the desired angular positions of adjustment.
Thus it will be seen that each pair of flareboards can be easily and quickly adjusted by the two sets of adjusting means 13 and l4to different angular positions with respect to each other and with the mold 4.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the claimed as new is:
1. In combination with a moldboard of a plow, a pair of flareboards hingedly connected together at their adjacent edges, means for hinging the lower edge of the lower flareboard to the upper edge of the moldboard and means for adjusting the flareboards on their hinges relative to one another and relative to the moldboard, such adjustment means including lugs on the rear faces of the moldboard and the two flareboards, a pair of levers pivoted to the lug of the lower flareboard, means for adjustably connecting one lever to the lug of the top flareboard and means for invention, what is adjustably connecting the other lever to the lug of the moldboard.
2. In combination with a moldboard of a plow, a pair of fiareboards hingedly connected together at their adjacent edges, means for hinging the lower edge of the lower flareboard to the upper edge of the moldboard and means for adjusting the fiareboards on their hinges relative to one another and relative to the moldboard, such adjustment means including lugs on the rear faces of the moldboard and the two flareboards, a pair of levers pivoted to the lug of the lower flareboard, means for adjustably connecting one lever to the lug of the top flareboard'and means for adjustably connecting the other lever to the lug of the moldboard, a support on the moldboard, a lever pivoted to the support, a lug on the upper flareboard and means for adjustably connecting the last-mentioned lever to the last-mentioned lug.
