J: 1121 E am an d. e .Fi-E 4 I INVENTO/E A TTORNE Y Patented Dec. 3, 1929 PATENT OFFICE JOHN ESMONDE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
RESONATING DAN GIN G PLATE Application filed June 18, 1928.
My invention relates to dancing shoes and refers more particularly to toe and heel plates used in conjunction therewith.
One object of my invention is to provide a a toe plate formed to provide a resonant body and, with a ribbed portion, to hold the plate firmly to the leather of the sole of the shoe.
Another object of my invention is to provide a heel plate formed to provide a resonant 1 body and with a ribbed portion to hold the plate firmly to the heel ot the shoe.
I obtain these objects by means of the parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein similar numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views, in which Figure 1, is an elevation of a dancing shoe with the heel and toe plates attached.
Figure 2, is a full sized plan of the toe plate.
Figure 3, is a section of Figure 2, taken on lines 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4:, is an elevation of the toe plate.
Figure 5, is a plan of the heel plate.
Figure 6, is a section of the heel plate taken on lines 6-6 of Figure 5.
The shoe 1, has a toe plate fixed to the sole 3, at the top of the shoe and a heel plate l, lixed to the heel 5.
The toe plate is comprised of a D shaped metallic piece provided with a rib 6, extending somewhat above the body 7, of the plate and approximately half way around the periphery of the plate, the plate being tapered from the front end 8, to the bacl: 9, in the centre of which is a hollow resonating pocket 10, and around the edges are a series of nail holes 11.
The heel plate 4:, formed to fit one half of the heel proper is provided with a rib 12, extending somewhat above the body 13., of the plate entirely around the outer edge of the plate, a resonant pocket 14, substantially in the center and a series 01 nail holes 15, for nailing the plate on the heel.
In dancing, when the plate strikes the floor,
the pockets 10 and 14, provide resonating air pockets which magnify the sound and give an efiective resonating effect.
Having thus described and illustrated the 5 preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to limit myself to the exact construe- Serial No. 286,277.
