Be .it vknown that l, Geenen' EDWARD SMiTH, a subject of His Majesty the King of Great Britain and Ireland,l residing at 215 Lambton Quay, Ilv'rellington, in the Provincial District of Wellington, in the vDominion of New Zealand, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rubber Footwear, of which the following is -a specification.

The invention has for its object the strengthening of the heels and thereby in.

creasing the durability of galoshes and similar rubber footwear.

Accor to my invention I employ a ilanged metal plate which is located within the heel of 4the 'galosh between the insole and the outersole. This metal plate is secured in position during the -construction lof the galosh in a manner. which ticularly described by the panying drawing wherein;

What I do claim'and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. In a galosh, the combination for the lpurpose indicated, of an insole, an outer sole avlng anv integral heel portion, an upper lining having its lower edges inturned beneath said insole, ametal flanged plate located between the said insole 4and the heel portion ofthe outer sole, a covering piece beneath said plate,'an upper having its edges inturned beneath said covering'piec-e, and a iilling piece secured to said covering piece between the-edges of saiduppi,'substantially as specified.
