IMPROVEMENT IN SH UTTERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 73,722, dated February 22, 1876; application filed June 23, 1875.

To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, GEORGE HAYES, ofthe city, county, and State of'New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Blinds, Shutters, and Doors for Buildings and other purposes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification, and in Which- Figure 1 represents a face view of a pair of blinds, shutters, or doors constructed in accordance with my invention; and Figs. 2 and 3, profile views of the same.

This invention consists in a blind, shutter, or door for buildings and other purposes, composed of a perforated or corrugated, embossed, crimped, or stepped metal plate or plates, whereby said blinds, shutters, or doors not merely serve to exclude the direct rays of the sun and to admit the light in a more agreeable and diffused manner than do wire-gauze blinds or doors, but, what is of greater importance, they protect against fire, inasmuch as the corrugatin g, embossing, crimping, or stepping of them strengthens them, and prevents them from buckling by heat in case of fire; also provides for their contraction and expansion at all times.

The shutters or blinds A A (represented in the drawing) are hinged to their frames; but they may be otherwise hung to open and close in any other way. Both are madeof perforated sheet-metal plates, and corrugated, embossed, crimped, or stepped, as shown at b b, Without regard, however, to any particular 'form or direction for the corrugations or bent portions. The perforations a, too, in them may be of any desired size and number, and either be arranged to represent some fanciful or ornamental pattern, or be arranged with- GEORGE HAYES.
