Description

NOV. 26, 1929. J JACOBS 1,737,158
PAN SUPPORT Filed Feb. 15, 1928 INVENTO R.
A TTORN E YS.
Patented Nov. 26, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT AARON J. JACOBS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE JACOBS BROS. 00., INC., OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK PAN SUPPORT Application filed February 13, 1928.
This invention relates to scales and specifically aims to provide an improved form of mounting for the pan or platform.
It is an object of the invention to provide a device of this character in which very few and individually rugged parts will be employed Which may be manufactured readily and cheaply and which may be shipped in disassembled condition and by means of which, upon receipt, the user may mount the pan or platform without any skill being necessary.
A further object of the invention is that of furnishing a construction of such a nature that the pan or platform will at no time, while the scale is in use, have movement with respect to the parts upon which it is mounted, but in which this pan or platform may be shifted readily to extend in a direction best suited to the convenience of the user.
With these and further objects in mind reference is had to the attached sheet of drawings wherein there is illustrated one practical embodiment of the invention and in which the figure is a sectional elevation taken through a scale and showing a pan or platform mounted thereon.
In this view the numeral 1 indicates the scale base from which a pedestal extends upwardly to pivotally mount, in any desired manner, a beam which terminates in a collar portion 2, to which is connected, by means of suitable bearings 3, a yoke 4 extending into the base, within which it may be connected to a dash-pot (not shown).
Supported upon the yoke is a bell-shaped member 5 terminating in a flange portion 6, the upper edge of this member mounting a cap 7 Which overlaps the flange to prevent sidewise play between the parts.
With a view to preventing endwise shifting of these elements and also to provide a unitary, rigid structure, a rod 8 may be employed which has its ends screw-threaded as at 9, the lower to engage a similar threaded opening of the yoke 4 and the upper to engage a threaded boss 10 extending centrally of the cap, it being obvious that the desired results are thus achieved and that the parts may be assembled readily.
Serial No. 253,802.
As a consequence of this structure a pan mounting is provided, but at this time it is to be understood that while such a mounting is preferably resorted to, any desired structure may be employed in this connection to furnish an upwardly extending element having a configuration cooperatingly equivalent to the exterior surfaces of the cap.
Mounted by this element is a pan or platform which, in the present exemplification, is in the form of a scoop 11. Extending downwardly and centrally of the element 11 is a collar 12 which, as shown, is annular incident to the fact that in the exemplification illustrated the exterior surfaces of the cap are likewise annular. This collar is of a diameter adequate to encircle the cap and snugly embrace the same, so that any play between the parts is prevented. In fact, as shown, both the interior of the collar. as well as the exterior of the cap, may be slightly tapered so that a wedge-fit is provided at this point.
Thus, it will be apparent that the pan may be mounted and detached readily and the position thereof may also be adjusted with facility, particularly if, as shown, the engaging parts are annular.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that, among others, the objects specifically aforestated are achieved, it being understood, however, that numerous changes in construction may be resorted to without in the slightest departing from the spirit of this invention as defined by the claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A. pan support for scales including, in combination, an article-receiving member, a mounting therefor, a collar forming a part of one of said elements and a collar-engaging member forming a part of the other of the same, said collar and collar-engaging member being formed with cooperating tapered surfaces.
2. A pan support for scales including an articleor weight-receiving member, a collar extending therefrom, a mounting member forming a part of the scale proper and including a projecting portion to extend within said collar, said projecting portion having its exterior surfaces tapered.
3. A pan support including a mounting member, a beam upon which said member is disposed, a cap supported by said member, an article-receiving element, acollar extending downwardly from said element and enclosing said cap and the cooperating surfaces of said collar and cap being tapered.
4. A pan support including a mounting member, a beam upon which said member is disposed, a cap supported by said member, an article-receiving element, a collar extending downwardly from said element and enclosing said cap and the cooperating surfaces of said collar and cap being tapered, and means extending within said member and securing said cap against movement with respect to said beam.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature.
AARON J. JACOBS.
