FLOYED N. CARTER, OF MAROA TOWNSHIP, MACON COUNTY, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAWlNG-MACHINES.
Specification forming m of Letters Patent No. Item 14.. dated February 22, 1876; application filed January 4, 1876. A
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FLOYED N. CARTER, of Maroa township, in the county of Macon and State of Illinois, (post-oflice address Maroa, Illinois,) have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sawing-Machines, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to construct a portable sawing-machine'to which a crosscut saw is attached, and capable-0f being operated by one person. This I accomplish by a rectangular frame, with pulleys at top and bottom; the frame operated by a crank and gearing; the saw-hanger sliding on said rectangular frame, and a guide-rod attached thereto; the saw so hung as to come nearly to the ground, falling by its own weight; the saw hinged to the sliding hanger so that it canbe turned up out of the way; suitable dogs attached to the frame, so as to secure the log.
Figure l is a side elevation of a machine embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a plan of sliding hanger.
A is a rectangular frame sliding in the main This frame A has pulleys a a a a at top and bottom, running on the framework b b. The rectangular frame is operated through the medium of the link 0, pivoted on said rectangular frame and on the disk d. The disk is operated by the gearwheels cf and the crank g. G is a hanger sliding on the front upright 0f the rectangular frame, the hanger being further guided by the upright piece l sliding on the rod h. This rodis attached to the rectangular frame at the top and bottom of the same. The saw D is secured in the hanger and pivoted on the pin 41. Thepin t can be removed, and the saw turned up and secured, as shown in Fig. 2, the saw provided with two holes for securing it in a horizontal or vertical position. k k are dogs pivoted to the braces an of the main frame, and by which the log E is secured and held to the frame.
I claim as my invention- 1. Thecombination of the rectangular frame A, guide-rod h, hanger O, and saw D, as shown and described. I
2. The combination of the hanger (3 with the saw D, pivoted at i, and so arranged as to be secured in a horizontal or vertical position,
shown and described.
