provements in cabinets wherein a plurality of compartments are provided and consists in arranging the compartments such that an filing'system may be enlargedsystematic The salient object of invention is to provide a cabinet in. which a plurality of compartments is provided-which are arranged in such a way that, elements of certain definite sizes may be arranged for expeditiousselection. I V
.Thls invention is particularly adapted for use in storing Wooden blockssuch as those to 'which'lso-called rubberxstamps are attached. These blocks are supplied in suitably graduated'rwidths and they are also provided in suitably'graduated lengths. Myinvention .consists in providing acabinet such that blocks of the same' length but of diff-er ent widths may be contained in a provided compartment in the cabinet while'blocksof the same width variationlbutof different lengths may-be contained in other provided compartments, and'I so arrange this cabmet 125 that it maybe 'mounted'at a point requiring.
very little space and therefore since the blocks are'fso' systematically stored they may be expeditiously selected.
Other objects Willappear hereinafter.
The invention consists in thenovel combination and arrangement of parts tobe hereinafter described and claimed. 1 {The invention will be best understood by reference to? the accompanying drawing;
showing the preferred form of construction andinwhichy Fi'gpl is a"front;elevational view of a preferred embodiment of my invention with the door thereof in closed position;
Figa2'is a viewsimilar to Fig. 1, the d oor having been opened; and f Y Fig. 3 is a sectional detail view takensubstantially int-he planeof the line 3- 3 on Fig.1.
In'carr'ying'out the preferred form'ofmy construction, I provide a rectangular 'boxem-- bodying end walls 10 and 11 and top and bot tom walls 12' and 13. {Pre ferably the end Walls lQandll are of greater width than the thereon.
fitted in-between the end walls 10 and 11, as bestshown in'Fig. 8. Suitable hinge structures 16 are secured to the endwall 10 and the covers 14 and 15 in .the'manner best shown, in Figs. 1 and 3, and suitable locking devices, not shown, .arejprovided on the covers 14' and 15 adjacent theend wall11 in order that said covers may be retained in closed position. 0 4
An anglebracket' 17' islsecured to wall l2and theendwall 10 in the manner 7 best shown in Fig. 1', and a p intle 18 -.is1prof vided on this angle bracket.- An angle bracket 19 is secured tothe bottom wall13 and the end wall 10, and la pintle 20 is ;pro-.
vided' thereon. Suitablebrackets 21 and 22 are provided which have-bearings 23 and-24 mounted in the bearing23 and the, pintle 20 The pintle 18 is ad'aptedltoj be is adaptedtoabe mounted in the bearing24 The brackets 21 and 22 are adapted torbe secured to awal l or othen similar'supportby;
suitable; securing elements suchasthe screws.
25. This structure is such that the cabinet may be swung'into either} a positionas shown inFig; 1, wherein the door 15 is juxtaposed f v the wall, or; it may be swung aboutso that door 14; is in engagement with thewalhor it may be stopped at any desired point he;
In the cabinet aplurality of 'horizontally' disposed shelves, are provided which are of a Width equa-l,.;toithe-;top and bottom walls 12 and 13. The shelf 261s s aced away-from the topwall and theshelfQ from the sh'elf26 and the shelf 25 is spaced isspaced away away. from the shelf 27 of the-bottom wall 13. Preferably the spaces betweenfthe vari;
'ous shelves and theitop, and bottom walls are equal although :this is-not necessary. .gAs .stated, the .-'horizontal-ly disposed art tionsi26,'27,;;and 28 are ofa' width e ualto the topand bottom walls 12and 13.-
lso as has "been stated, the articles to be retained betweenthe shelves are adapted tobeofdiiferjent length. It is desirable that the various blocks of various lengths be so arranged in the cabinet that-the edges thereq Will be; in
alignment with the shelf on which they are mounted and it is also desirable in order to facilitate the stacking thereof that the other ends thereof abut a vertically disposed partition that will be disposed between the hOI'l: zontally disposed shelves. In order to divide the cabinet into a plurality of compartments,
vertically'disposed partitions 29, 30, 31, and
31 are provided which are mounted midway between the end walls lOand 1'1.
' The partition 29 is disposed between the top wall 12 and the shelf 26. The first size I of blocks. are adapted to be mounted in the portion ofthe compartment definedbythe partition 29,,shelf 26, end Wall 10 and top a wall 121*A vertically extending part is then disposedflparallel with the" door Hand is spaced away from the edge of the, shelf 28 i that-is adapted 'toengage the door 14: a distance equalto'the'length 'of this first size of blocks. "This partition is indicated by 32 i the drawings; a 1 1 'In the compartment'defined by the parti-' tion1l29tshelf 26, end wall 11 and top'wall 12, the next length inblocks are'adapted to be mounted and a partition 33 is disposed parallel'to the'partition 32 but is spaced back fartherfrom the edge oftheshelf26 an amount equalto the length-of the block to becontained therein.
In thecompartment' defined by the parti ti'on 30, shelf 27, end wall and shelf 26, the' next length of blocks are: adapted tobe mounted-and a partition 34 provided against which the blocks in this compartment are'adapted toabutand'this partition 34 is' spaced back farther than the partition 33 an amount ,equal-j'to the difference between the fi th f he blocks that are ada ted to u Ithe1partitions33 and-34;; This construction is carried o ut throughout the remaining portions of the cabinet and the partitions 35,136,-
7 37,138 and '39 are suitably mounted in the manner that has be'en described;
It is apparent that theportion' 'ofthe cabiiiet to which the door-15 affords access also contains a plurality: of compartments which are of varying depths as defined by the verticafllyextending partitions 32 to 39 inclusive atthis stage of the iconstruction andv the s'h'a llowe'st" compartment on this side will be definedby' the partition :39 and the deepest will be that defined by the partition 32. The cabinet ismade of apre -determined depth and" partitions are disposed inwardly from the edges of the shelves', disposed toward the r 7 door 15, 21; distance dependent upon the length tions 36 and 37 is shown. This also shows how the partitions 40 and 41 on the side closed by the door-15 are adapted to be arranged.
The foregoing structure takes careof blocksv of different lengths.
In each of the spaces defined by the partitions against which the ends oftheblocks are adapted to abut, a plurality of vertically ex tending partitions are provided which are adapted to extend at right angles to the just described partitions 32 to 39, inclusive, and AQ-and 41. By referring to Fig. 3, it may be seen that in'the compartment defined by the partitio'n 29, shelf-26ijand wall. 10, top Wall 12 and partition 32, apartition 4L2 is provided which isspaced away from the end wall 10 an amount equal to the width of the first; block. Then a partition 43 is spaced'aWay; from a partition 42 an amount equal to the width of thesecondblock and thepartition 44 is spaced away from the partition l3 an amount equal to the width ofthe third block and "this construction is carried on throughoutthe device for the required number of times, and the partition 45 which. is the last defines-aispace between the partition 29 and itself which is equal to theiwidth" of thewidest block. This structureis carried out in each of thecomp'artments in order to acc'ome length. s 1
modate the; various-widths of blocks of each WhileI'have herein useditheiterm blocks being-the determiningifactor for: determining the :size of the various compartments, it. is, to:
be distinctly: Zunderstood that .thi'sinvention arranged equallyin all of the compartments a's'..will;;'be apparent to anyone skilled in the 31113: '31:," I ;...'s=
While'I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my inventionintoeffect, thisis-capable of variation alidmodification, without departingfrom the spiritof the invention. .I, there; fore, do not WiSlit'O be limited to the precise details of construction set forth but desire toavail myself of suc h variations and modifications as come within the-scope ofthe appended claim.
Having-thus described m avaaoawha I claim as new and desire to' protect by Letters Patentis'zi A cabinetcomprising aframe member having shelf members extending thereacross in spaced apart relation, parallel, to the-ends thereof, partitions extendingbetween said shelf members and said end members in parallel relationwiththe sides-of the frame and disposed substantially midway between said sides to divide the (area definedby said frame into aplurality of-icompartments, door members ,hingedly copnected said frame is not limited to suchousageifor. any1kind or, 1190 type ofarti'cle of graduated siz'esmight be retained in the device.- Further, it isjnotj necessary that the partitions 42, 43, etc.-, be-' to close access to said compartments, wall members disposed in said compartments parallel to said door members, said wall members being spaced from said door member in a manner such that the wall member in one of said compartments will be disposed relatively close tosaid door member and such that successive wall members will be spaced from said door member in eater amounts in a successive manner, sai wall members being disposed such that the distance between said door member and said wall members on one side of said device will be less than the distance between said other door member and other wall members on the other side of said device, the wall member arranged farthest from said last named door member being disposed in co-operative relation with the wall member closest to said first named door member, and partitions extending between said shelf members and said "end members parallel to the sides of said frame and said first named partitions to divide said compartments into a plurality of spaces.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
