This invention relates to cabinets, and .more 4particularly to a reversible cabinet especially designed to -hold toothbrushes and dentifrice containers and toilet articles, such as shaving brushes and shaving cream or soap containers` It is among the objects of the invention tc provide an improved `cabinet especially designed for holding toilet articles, such as toothbrushes, shaving brushes and dentifrice and shaving cream containers; which is formed of moisture resistant material and provided with Ventilating openings to maintain the interior thereof in a substantially dry condition and to dry articles placed therein; which is of rounded shape and is invertible in position so that a cabinet can -be placed at either side of a bathroom jInirror'or cabinets can be -placed one at veach side of the mirror, 'if desired', and sothat the door of each cabinet will open in a direction away 4frorn the mirror: which is of suicient capacity to receive a number of toothbrushesand other toilet articles; and which is simple and .durable in cone struction, economical to manufacture and'neat and attractive in appear-ance.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the following description and the appended claims in conjunction with the accompanying, drawing Wherein:
Figure 1 isa perspective View of a cabinet illustrative of the invention with the door shown in closed position; c
Figure 2 is a perspective view similar to Figure 1 with the door shown in open position;
Figure 3 is a vertical cross sectional View of the cabinet on the line 3-73 of Figure 1; `and Figure 4 is a transverse cross sectional view of the cabinet on the line 4-4 of Figure l.
With continued reference to the drawing, the illustrated cabinet comprises a vertical back wall I0 in the form of a fiat plate of elongated rectangular shape, horizontal forwardly projecting end walls II and I2 secured each along one edge to said back wall at respectively opposite ends of the latter, a horizontal partition I3 secured along one edge to the back wall substantially at the mid-length location ofthe back wall and projecting forwardly from the latter, vertical compartment partitions I4 and I5 extending along the :back wall between the end walls II and I2, respectively, and the horizontal partition I3. A hinge strip I6 extends along one edge Lof the back wall and a door I'I is hinged along one edge to the edge of the hinge strip I8 remote from the back wall I0 of the cabinet.
s claims. (C1. 31a- 283) 2 The end walls II and I2 and the partition I3 extend substantially perpendicularly from the front of the backwall I0 and are substantially parallel to each other. The compartment walls I4 extend from the end wall II to the partition I3 substantially perpendicular to this end wall and the partition land to the back-wall IIJ and n divide the space between the end wall I I and the partition I3 into three contiguous, article receiving compartments. The vertical compartment partitions I5 extend yfrom the end wall I2 to the horizontal partition I3 substantially perpendicular to the end wall I2, and the partition wall I3 and the back wall and in spaced apart and substantially parallel relationship to each other and divide the space betweenthe end wall I 2 and the partition I3 into three contiguous article receiving compartments. The outer edges of the compartment walls I4 and I5 are arcuately concaved, as is particularly illustrated in Figures 2 and 3, to provide easy access to articles stored in the cor# responding compartments. i
The free ends and side edges of the end walls II and I2 and the parti-tion I3 are -convexly curved from the back wall adjacent one edgethereof to the back wall adjacent the other edge of the back wall in arcs of substantially 180 degrees. The free end of the partition wall I3 is flattened off, as indicated at'IB, to'provide a Ventilating passage between this partition and the door I'I when the door is in closedposition, and the partition I3 is further 4provided with slots I 9 extending inwardly from the curved edge thereof to receive toothbrushes and suspend such toothbrushes from the partition I3. Between the compartment walls I4 and spaced forwardly from the free edges'o-f these compartment walls the partition I3- is provided with an upstanding projection20 to assist inretaining an article'or articles in the compartment between the compartment walls I4, 'and at its opposite side the partition I3 is provided with a similar projection 2| to assist in retaining articles in the compart-4 ment between the compartment walls I5 when, the position of the cabinet is inverted from that illustrated in Figure 2.
The door Il is transversely curved to a substantially semicylindrical Ashape less the wid-th u at one side of the hinge strip I6 andl has a length substantially equal to the distance from the outer side of the end wall II tothe outer side of the end wall I2, When the door is closed it extends around the curved free ends and side edges of the end walls I I and l2 and of the partition I3 from the outer edge of the hinge strip I6 to the edge of the back wall Ill remote from the hinge strip, as is clearly illustrated in Figures 1 and 4.
The door I 'I is provided with groups of ventilating apertures, as indicated at 22 and 23, which groups are disposed at opposite sides of the partition I3, and a knob 24 is secured to the door at the mid-length location of the door and near the free edge thereof remote from the hinge strip I6 by a screw 25 extending through a hole in the door and threaded into the knob. A spring clip 26 is secured to the door by the head of the screw 25, and the partition wall I3 is provided with a notch or recess 21 which receives the spring detent 26 when the door is closed for releasably latching the door in closed position.
The invention may be embodied in other s ecii-lc forms without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics thereof. The present embodiment is, therefore, to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, the scope of the invention being dened by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description, and all changes which come within the meaning and rangev of equivalency of the claims'are, therefor Y, intended to be embraced therein.
