2 Claims. (Cl. 211-13) This invention relates to a holder for toilet accessories and the principal object of the invention is to provide a holder that will support hair brushes, combs and the like in a neat and orderly fashion.

An important object of the invention is to provide a holder of this type wherein the brushes and combs are quickly and readily placed in the supporting means or removed therefrom in a minimum of time.

Another object is to provide a holder for brushes and combs wherein the supporting means is slidably mounted for adjusting the supporting means to the size of the article being supported.

A further object is to provide a holder for brushes and combs that is adapted to be hung on a vertical support, such as a wall and adapted to receive and support a number of brushes and combs in vertical position.

Yet another object of the invention is to provide a combined hair brush and comb holder that is simple and practical in construction, neat and attractive in appearance, strong and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Referring in detail to the drawings, in FIG. 1 a combined hair brush and comb holder embodying one form of the invention is shown and designated generally at 28. The holder 20 comprises a horizontally disposed flat rectangular bottom wall 22 and a rear upstanding rectangular wall 24 at the rear long edge of the bottom wall 22. The bottom and rear walls may be molded in one piece of suitable plastic material. The bottom wall is formed with Patented June 13, 1961 a downwardly extending peripheral flange 26 and with an upwardly extending flange 28 along its long front edge.

Along its top edge, the rear wall 24 is formed with an upstanding flange 30 and with rearwardly extending

32 and 34, 34 along its top and end edges, respectively, as seen in FIG. 2. The flanges together with the bottom wall define a recess 36 at the back of the holder. A series of notches 38 are formed in the top horizontal flange 32 and spaced therealong. A pair of spaced L- shaped brackets 40 are molded on the rear surface of the rear wall 24 and extend rearwardly thereof within the recess 36. The brackets are formed with keyhole slots 42 for mounting the holder on nails or the like on a vertical supporting surface such as a wall.

A number of comb supporting units 44, four being shown, are removably and adjustably mounted in upright position on the bottom wall 22. The units 44 are formed of plastic material the same as the

22 and 24 and each unit comprises a flat tubular member 46 closed at the bottom end as indicated at 48 and being open at the top end 49. The open end edge is tapered and the highest end of said edge is formed with a hooked extension 50 extending horizontally, with the hook portion extending downwardly. The hook portion is shaped to conform to the shape of the notches 38. The opening 52 in the tubular member 46 conforms to the shape of an ordinary hair comb but is slightly wider to receive a comb of ordinary size such as the comb indicated at 54 in FIGS. 1 and 5. I

The comb supporting units 44 are supported in upright position normal to the rear wall 24 by the flange 30 of the rear wall. The hooked extensions 50 are hooked over flange 30 with the hooked portions thereof seated in the sockets 38 and interlocked with the edge walls of said sockets. The closed ends of the units extend through elongated slots 56 formed in the bottom wall 22 and extending from the front to the rear thereof. The slots are spaced along the bottom wall from end to end thereof. In FIG. 1, a unit 44 is shown mounted in each end slot 56, and a unit is shown mounted in each fourth slot from the end so that the space along the bottom Wall is equally divided or partitioned. The units serve as partition walls. A unit may be removably mounted in any desired slot 56, there being a notch 38 in line with each slot.

The units 44, bottom and rear walls define compartments 60 for removably receiving and supporting elongated hair brushes 63 in upright position. The front flange 28 along the bottom wall 22 prevents displacement of the supported hair brushes but it is preferable that a guard be provided along the top ends of the compartments for holding the brushes in place. This guard takes the form of a wire frame 62 as shown in FIG. 7. The frame consists of a length of round wire 64 slightly bent midway its ends and bent at right angles at each end forming end flanges '66. The end flanges terminate at their free ends in hooks 68. Another length of wire 70 extends between the end flanges adjacent the hooked ends and spaced away from wire 64 for bracing the frame. A sheet metal strip 72 connects the

64 and 70 midway their ends and has its ends looped around the wires. The strip 72 serves as a finger piece for manipulating the frame. The frame is positioned outwardly of the units 44 at the top thereof with the end hooks 68 hooked over the outer lower portions of the tapered ends of the units and disposed in the openings in the units. The frame thus spans the compartments 60, at the top ends thereof, and coact with the lower flange 28 in holding the supported hair brushes 63 in position and against displacement.

In practicing the invention, the holder 20 may be mounted on a vertical supporting wall by placing the aesaaae hooked brackets 40 over projecting nails or the like on the wall. A comb 54 may be inserted in each or any selected one of the units 44 and a hair brush 63 may be inserted from the top into any one of the compartments 60. The size of the compartments may be adjusted by moving adjacent units 44 toward or away from each other into selected slots 56.

The modified form of combined hair brush and comb holder 20" shown in FIGS. 8 and 9 differs only slightly from the holder 20 providing spaced holes 74 in the bottom wall 22 instead of the slots 56. The holes receive pins 76 depending from the closed end 48' of the unit 44. The closed end of the unit rests upon the bottom wall 22" and the hooked extension 50 on the open end is hooked over the flange 30 of the rear wall 24.

Referring now to the modified form of combined hair brush and comb holder 20a shown in FIGS. to 14, inclusive, in this form the holder is formed of metal and the bottom wall 22a is imperforate and formed with an upstanding flange 28:: along its front long edge and with a flange 80 along one of its short end edges. The top end of the rear wall 24a is without flanges at the top and without a recess at the rear, the top of the wall being flat and straight. In place of supporting brackets, the rear wall is formed with keyhole slots 82 adjacent its top corners for supporting the holder on a vertical supporting wall.

The comb supporting units 44a each comprises a metal tubular member 46a open at both ends, with one end edge tapered as indicated at 49a to form a short front end as viewed in FIG. 10. The long rear end of the unit is formed with a transverse dovetail groove 84.

The comb supporting units 44!: are supported in upright position on the bottom wall 22a by sliding the units along a projecting bar 86 molded on the front surface of the rear wall 24a midway its top and bottom end edges and extending from end to end thereof. The bar 86 is of dovetail cross section and is adapted to receive the dovetail grooves 84 of the units 44a, with the bottom open ends of the units resting upon the bottom wall 22a. The units are movable toward and away from each other in order to define with the rear and bottom wall a number of compartments 60a for receiving and supporting elongated hair brushes, in upright position.

The end comb supporting units 44a are held against movement along the bar 86 by means of a flat metal bar 88 fastened to the end units by screws 90 extending through holes in the bar and through holes in the front ends of the units. The intermediate units 44a may be readily slid along the bar 86 in order to adjust the size of the compartments 60a as desired. The bar 88 with the front flange 28a serves to hold the hair brushes in position and against displacement in the compartments.

In using this form of the invention, the hair brushes are inserted through the top of the compartments 60a and rest upon the floor 22a, the flange 28a and bar 88 serving to hold the brushes in upright position. The combs are inserted into the tubular members 46a through the top ends thereof, and rest upon the bottom wall 22a of the holder.

While we have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of our invention, it is to be understood that we do not limit ourselves to the precise constructions herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. A combined hair brush and comb holder comprising a fiat bottom rectangular-shaped wall, a flat rear wall extending upwardly from one long edge of the bottom wall, flat tubular comb-supporting units removably supported in upright position on the bottom wall, said walls and units defining compartments for receiving and supporting hair brushes, means on the units for interlocking the units with the rear wall including a hooked extension on the top open end of each unit adapted to be hooked over the top end of the rear wall, said units being adjustable along the bottom wall to adjust the size of the compartments, said bottom wall having spaced elongated transversely disposed slots adapted to receive removably the bottom end of the units, and means for preventing displacement of the hair brushes in the compartments including an upstanding flange on the other long edge of the bottom wall and a wire frame removably supported on the top ends of two units and spanning the spaces therebetween.

2. A combined hair brush and comb holder comprising a flat bottom rectangular-shaped wall, a flat rear wall extending upwardly from one long edge of the bottom wall, fiat tubular combsupporting units removably supported in upright position on the bottom wall, said walls and units defining compartments for receiving and supporting hair brushes, means on the units for interlocking the units with the rear wall including a hooked extension on the top open end of each unit adapted to be hooked over the top end of the rear wall, said units being adjustable along the bottom wall to adjust the size of the compartments, said bottom wall having spaced elongated transversely disposed slots adapted to receive removably the bottom end of the units, and means for preventing displacement of the hair brushes in the compartments including an upstanding flange on the other long edge of the bottom wall and a wire frame removably supported on the top ends of the units and spanning the spaces therebetween, said frame including a wire having flanges on both ends thereof, said flanges terminating in hooks, and another wire extending between the'fianges for bracing the frame and a strip of sheet metal connecting the wires midway their ends, said hooks adapted to be inserted into the openings in the end units at the tops thereof.
