' l FLOOR SCRAP-ER Fled`Jan .i 25, 1929 Patented Nov. 12, 1929 UNirED '1f-Ares PA'TENrYoFFiCE ALFRED w. ABRAHAMSEN ANDANDERS sKnRsrEN, or QUEENS VILLAGE, NEW Yoan' FLOOR scRArER `Application me@ ianjiary'aa 1929. serial No. 334,993.
This invention relates to wood scrapers, more particularly floor Scrapers, adapted for use on woodfand parquet floors, the object of the invention being to provide an improved floorv scraper simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and durablein use, the
present 'I invention being. an improvement uponthat shown and described inAbrahamf sen Patent No.y 1,670,646V of May 22,1928'.
In the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification, Fig. 1 is a side partly sectional view of this improved floor scraper;
V- Fig,2 is aI bottom View thereof, and
`Figi 3 is a detailpaitly sectional view, enlarged, 'of the front partof the scraper.A
Similar Ycharacters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views. v-
Before explaining in detail they present improvement'and mode of operation thereof, we desire Vto have it understood' that'the inven-y tion is not limited to-the'details" of construe-vr tion and varrangement of parts whichv are illustrated in 'the accompanying' drawings, since the invention-is capable of other embodiment's', Vand that the phraseology ,which we employ is forthe purpose of description and not f limitation; ,l Y *Y i y The primary object of the present improvement is the provision in such a scraper of improved meansv for holding the blade and means for insuringl the proper filing or'. sharpening of the cutting edge -or cutter. c In the Abrahamsen patent above referred to, the blade 3 was carried by some suitable' handle 2, theblade and the cutter 4 having a de-v tachable connection' whereby the cutter rcould be readily renewed. In the present improvement, the handle 2 carrying the blade 3comprises' a suitable block preferably wood,
formed at its front end to providean loverhanging portion 5 'and slotted as at 6 rearwardly'th'ereof. This overhang 5 thus supports the blade at the rear face thereofwhen in use; The blade is vprovided with a bent under side with an'opening 8 for therecepj tion of a detachable `handle 9 j-havingja threadedv ferrule 10 at its -endgadapted to be turned into a threaded socket 11 v,secured to the block. Thisv block is ofg'suitable shapefso f that itcan be readily grasped in thehand whereby thescraper may be usedfforane Work. I/Vhenjhowever, fast or rough scraping is desired, the detachable handle 9,'herei inbefore referred tomay be attached the blocksV s Forthe purposeof insuring the properfily ing or Vsharpening of the blade, we have provided a suitable pivotedsupport or guide and Y for'this purposea V-shaped channel piece 12 is provided atgthetop or back side of the blade, this channel piece ybeingfastened to j the Vunder side of the overhanging nose 5 of the block, the forward edge of this V-shaped channelpiece resting'on top of the blade; Secured in this V-shaped channel-or hinge piece'for `shiftable or swinging movementis va filing guide 13,fthis.lgu1de comprising a curved member, having a pair of. inwardly projecting portions extending into ythe .Vf
shaped channel piecev with the innerV edge of Y.
the vcurved member in position to engage the blade 3 whereby the spring of the blade will hold the swinging member'in either its guid-` ing position or non-'usable position,vin other words, in either of its adjustedpositions.
When it is desired to sharpen lthe edgeof the cutter, the blade'isswung down away from` the nose of the blockv Iso tha-tit is in position to-support and 1guide the file 16, see'Fig. 3,
used for sharpening the cutter, thusgivingv the file two points of support, one on the cut- 16. A Hoor scraper comprising a handle and a scraping member and a shiftable sharpeningguide located in position and forming a rest for the sharpening member thereby to insure the sharpening of Jche scraping member at the proper angle and shiftable away from the scraping member When not in use. v
