UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CLAUDE LEON LAMBERT, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
IMPROVEMENT IN PHOTOGRAPHlC-PRINTING FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,547, dated February 15, 1876; application filed September 28, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLAUDE L. LAMBERT, of Paris, France, have invented a new and Improved Pressfor Working off Photographic 7 Proofs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a transverse section of the press with thelid thrown back; Fig. 2, a plan view; Fig. 3, a plan view of a modification of the press.
This invention relates to certain improve- .ments in photographic presses for working off positive proofs from the negative; and it consists in a casing having openings covered wi h glass of the size and shape of the outlines of the picture, upon which glass openings the negative is placed. A hinged leaf, provided with apertures corresponding to the openings, but a trifle smaller, is then fastened down upon the negative; and the sensitized paper being placed in little compartments above these apertures, a set of little doors lined with felt areshnt down, and held in place by hearingsprings on the lid, which, being fastened, holds the press tightly together.
In the drawingy-A represents the outer cas in g, having its side covered with glass, and lined inside with a dark opaque material, provided with apertures B B, of the size and shape of the innerportion of the picture. Upon these apertures the glass negative is placed, and a hinged leaf, 0, fastened down thereupon. Said leaf has openings 1) b, correspondin g with B B, but a little smaller, above which the sensitized paper is placed, the same being held in little compartments by means of the doors I), which are lined with felt, and press upon the paper from the action of the springs E E, which are fastened to the lid F. When the said lid is fastened down by any suitable means, the whole is held tightly together, and the sensitized paper is exposed through the negative and the apertures 13 B b b to the influences ot' the light.
' Fig. 3 shows a press for tinting the outer edges or border of the picture, and printing names or emblems upon the same. It is of the same general construction as Fig. 1, except that its part 0 is not hinged, and its transparent openings are of the shape of the border with the inner portion masked.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is l. The photographic press consisting of the case A, with apertured glass side, the hinged leaf 0, with corresponding apertures and hinged felt-lined doors D, and the lid F, wi h springs E E, all combined substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the case A, having apertured glass sides, the hinged felt-lined doors D, and the lid F, provided with springs E E, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
CLAUDE LEON LAMBERT.
