IMPROVEMENT m SKATE-SHARPEN'ERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,535, dated February 15, 1876; application filed December 47, 1875.
- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. FISHER,
of Selins Grove, in the county of Snyder and resents a top view; Fig. 2, a side elevation;
Fig. 3, a vertical transverse section on line 0 c, Fig. 2; and Fig. 4, a bottom view of my improved skate-sharpener.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to provide a device for sharpening skate-runners, which may be readily carried in the pocket, to be ready for use Whenever wanted, and by which any person can sharpen, perfectly, skates with straight or grooved edges, the sharpener being so guided along the runner of the skate that an even and exact edge is obtained.
The invention will first be described in connection with drawing, and then pointed out in the claim. Y
In the drawing, A represents the main part or body of the sharpener, which is cast of suitable metal, and provided at the top part with curved handles B, which are taken hold of by the thumb and forefinger for carrying the sharpener along the runner of the skate. The under side of body A is cast'with a stationary guide-flange,0, that extends parallel to the longitudinal'axis of the sharpener, an adjustable gage-piece, E, being guided along shoulders or otherwise, and set to any thickness of runner by clamp-screws E, parallel to guide D, and moving in slots a of body A.
A fine cross-cut steel file, D, is placed in' a Y remove the'rough edge, while the finer-grained file gives the fine edge or finish to the runner. The files are inserted, one after the other, into the lateral recess of the body and applied to the runner, sharpening the same in a quick, even, and convenient manner, and furnishing a light, compact, and cheap device for this purpose.
In using the sharpener the skate is held in one hand and the sharpener in the other, do-
ing away with need of a vise to hold the skaterunner.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to Secure by Letters Patent A pocket skate-sharpener, consisting. of body A, provided with curved handles B, filerecess 1), guide-flange O, and adjustable gage E, constructed as shown and described.
.. 'WILLIAM H. FISHER.
