IMPROV EMENT IN COMBINED CORSETS AND SKIRT-SUPPORTERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Pate'nt No. 173,323, dated February 8, 1876 application filed November 18, l875.-

construction and arrangement of corsets and skirt-supporters for ladies, the peculiarities of which will be hereinafter more particularly set forth. i

In the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a view of the corsets. Fig. 2 represents a viewof the corsets and supporter combined, and Fig. 8 represents a view of the supporter detached.

In the figure, A represents a pair of corsets, which may be-constructed in any of the known and usual ways, and either fancy or plain, having eyelet-holes andlaces onthe sides, and the usual fastenings on the front, for removing them from or closing them upon the person of the wearer.

These corsets may be quilted, as desired,-

and so formed that they will closely and neatly fitthe person. They are provided with shoulder-bands, as seen,to help support them. B represents the skirt-supporter, which is made as follows: I take a curved elastic metal or other suitable rod or bar, 0, and around "thisl wind, in spiral form, a wire, d, which has sufficient strength to sustain the weight to be placed upon it. This wire is so wound that it will taper from its center toward its ends in its coil, said coil being of such diameter as to suit the taste of the wearer. The length of the coil is just sufficient to reach around the back and to the laces or eyelets on the sides of the corsets.

It will be seen that-coil can be made so that it will hold the skirts well out immediately behind, and tapered so that they will fit snugly at its ends, or on the sides of the person of the wearer.

,A hook, e, is secured to the rod 0, and one or more eyes or loops, aware secured to the corsets, for the purpose of connecting the supporters and the corsets together. The eyes or loops are graduated for the purpose of allowing the waist to hemade longer or shorter.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination, with a pair of corsets having one-or more eyelets or loops, as, at the central part of the back, of the bustle formed of a curved elastic strip, 0, with a coil, 01, around the same, and having a hook, e, to engage with the eyelet or loop or in the corset-back, and additionally connected at the ends of the strip to the corset, all constructed and arranged substantially as set forth.
