' vention being to provide a MATCH-BOX HOLDER This invention relates to match box holders and more particularly match box holders positioned on dashboards of motor vehicles, or in public places where they are accessible the primary object of the inholder which will lock the match box against removal by unauthorized persons, without considerable effort on the part of a person removing the same.

Another object of the invention is vide a match box holder which may be constructed of a length of sheet metal by a single stamping operation, and bent upon itself in such a way as to provide an efiicient match box holder.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made Within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to'the drawings in detail, the body portion of the device is constructed of sheet metal and embodies a main portion 5 having an inwardly extended flange 6 formed at its upper end, the flange being curved so that the outer end thereof will contact with the'supporting surface as clearly shown,

by Figure 2 of the drawings.

the space between the portion 10 and portion 5 being equal to the thickness of the slidable section of a match box.

In the formation of the blank, end pieces 11 are provided which have securing lips 12, the end portions 11 being bent inwardly as shown by Figure 3, while the lips 12 are bent around the main portion 5, securing the end piece 8 against movement.

Openings 13 are formed in the portion 5 and end piece 8 for the reception of the securing screws 14 whereby the device may be secured to a supporting surface.

From the foregoing it will be obvious that due to the fact that the match box holder is constructed of resilient material, pressure will be exerted by the. main portion 5 to the flange 6 to hold the flange 6 into close engagement with the supporting surface and defining a lock to prevent the box from being moved without first prying the main portion 5 outwardly or away from the. supporting surface.

7 It will further be seen that the upper extremity of the portion 10 acts as a rest for the inner sliding section of the match box, and the sliding section will when in a position as shown by Figure 2, act as a further lock to prevent the match box from being moved to a point to pass between the flange 6 and supporting surface to remove the box.

In the modified form of the invention as shown by Figure 5, the portion 9 is formed with an opening to receive the screw 15 and nut 16 Operating thereon, the screw also passing through an opening in the match box. This form of the invention may be used on flat supporting surfaces.

In the form of the invention as illustrated by sheet 2 of the drawings, the match box holder includes a length of sheet metal '20 having a right angled end portion 21, a portion thereof extending inwardly and upwardly at 22 defining a flange against which the nut 23 positioned on the screw 2% engages.

The bolt 24 passes through an opening formed in the right angled end portion 21 and acts to secure the holder to the bracket 25 which is formed with an opening-to reg-' ister with the opening in the right angled end bracket.

This bracket has a downwardly extended flange 26 formed with openings to receive the securing screws 27 by means of which the bracket may be secured to a supporting surface. An upstanding flange 28 is formed along theouter edge of the bracket and provides a rest for the match oox, which is indicated by the reference character 29.

At opposite side edges of the body portion are inwardly extended flanges 3O hat cooperate with the flanges 31 of the movable member 32 which has its bottom resting on the upper end of the bolt 24 as clearly shown by Figure 6. A flange indicated at 33 is formed at the upper end of the member 20 and engages against the wall to hold the support and match box in spaced relation with the wallso that a match box may be readily positioned thereon.

The member 32 is also formed with an outwardly extended flange 34 designed to engage over the upper edge of the match box to hold the match box against displacement when matches are being taken from the match box.

From the foregoing it will be seen that the box in which matches are held will be secured by the

flanges

33 and 34.

I claim:

1. A match box holder including a body portion having a flange at its upper end, means for securing the body portion to a supporting surface, the flange adapted to engage the supporting surface to hold the upper end of the body portion in spaced relation with the supporting surface, said body portion providing a support for a match box positioned thereover, and said flange adapted to engage the upper end of the match box to hold the match box against vertical move ment.

2. A match box holder including a body .portion having a flange at its upper end, a base forming a part of the body portion, means for securing the base to a supporting surface, said flange adapted to engage the supporting surface to hold the upper end of the body portion in spaced relation with the supporting surface, a vertically adjustable member forming a part of the body portion, an adjusting bolt extending through the base and engaging the vertically adjustable member, and said flange adapted to engage a match box supported on the body portion to restrict vertical movement of the match box.
