Another and eqi :ally important advantage of my device resides in the provision ot means whereby the l5 several Yfastening devices are concealed in the jamb ot the door frame when the tastenings are not in use.

vWhile the foregoing distinguishing features and objects of my closure may be construed as the most apparent from the standpoint of general construction and arrangej ment of parts, other and equally important @d objects and advantages exist by virtue of the novel detailed construction of the separate elements thereof, and for this reason the above and other results and objects will be hereinafter' more fully described in detail r and specificaly pointed out in the claims appended hereunto and forming a part of this specification.

j In the drawings wherein like characters of reference are used to designate like or similar parts throughout the several views The numeral (l) designates theside of a grain car, (2) the door jambs surrounding the opening (3), and (4;) designates the sill. My closure is formed by utilizing a plurality` of door sections or planks (5) which are backed against the inner face of the jambs (2) and arranged one above the others to effeet a closure which is progressively built up as the car is filled with grain. i
The respective jambs (2) are each notched out as at (6) adjacent each section (5), and retained in the notched out portions (6) are fastening devices generally designated by (7). Each fastening device (7) is formed `with a sectional shank (8) the ends of which are screw threaded and secured in a turnbuckle (9); One section 1s formed with a 'hook (l0) on its free end and the other with an eye (ll). The fasteners (7) are arranged in pairs in the notches one above the other, and are swingably mounted by pins or bolts `(1Q) ext-ending through the jambs and notched out portions, They are usually staggered as shown in views A and B of Figure 3, and longer fastening devices may be nested after the manner shown in view of Figure 3, that is by bringing the pins or bolts (12) closer together. When not in use the fastening devices are nested in the notches.
Eye bolts (13) are provided in each plank in which the hooked ends (10) of the fastening devices are engaged When the sections are set up, at Which timethe turnbuckles (9) are adjusted to2 rigidly retain the sections 1n place.
The lowerrnost sect-ion of the door is provided with an opening (111') adjacent to which, and on the inner side of the section and parallel to each other above and below the opening are U-bars. (15) retained; infplace by bolts (16), and which constitute tracks for the closure (17'). Stops .formed of L- shaped brackets (18) limit the movement of closure (17) either direction.
In= Figures 5 to-9` I show an equally important and advantageous term of my' invention which contemplates the provision of hook deviceV (19) in each jambl notch- (i6). Receivable in the hooks (191)- arethe' links (120) of chains (21') and' eachlink is reduced as at (22) so that anyone of the links may be engaged inthe hooks toY lengthen or shorten thechain. Each chain hasa turnbuckle (23) Lthe hooked end (24) ofvvhich engages in the opening (25) of a fitting (262)x set into ree cesses in the grain boards-to liefi'ush with the surfacethereof. While this formf of my invention is slightly more complicated than the alternative form heretofore described there are certain situations in Which it `muster be used. It is believed that the operation of my invention will be apparent from the foregoing, but it is especially pointed out that'vmy door and the fastenings therefore may be readily and cheaplyapplied totypes ofgrain doors now in use', and'thatit is simple in construction and can be'A manufactured at small cost.
`IVhile inthe foregoing there has been illustratevd and described such combination and arrangement of elements asf constitute the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is nevertheless desired to emphasize the fact that interpretation of' the invention should only be conclusive when made in the light of the subjoined claims.

In a fastener for grain car doors ot' the type having a plurality7 of superposed sections forming the closure, a plurality of sets of fastening devices, one set foreach end of each section of the closure, the fastenings of each set being extensible and having linked extensions for selective engagement with an attachin'g'device in the jamb, said fastenings of each set being arranged one above the other for swinging movement to positions of concealment side by side in nested relation in a slot in the jamb provided for each set, the jambslot for each set being of a length greater than the length of any one fastener when extended, and: none of the i amb slots being communicative with each other.
