Description
l. A. BAUM DOOR FRAME FOR ALL PLASTER WALLS Oct. 8, 1929.
Filed March 6, 1928 Ind4 faov': ac W7 FMA-7 4 Patented @et 8, 1929 ticularly to means 'for training the openings PATENT OFFICE ISAAC A. BAUM, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS DOOR FRAME FR ALL-BLASTER WALLS Application filed March 6, 1928.
My invention relates to 1ouildings and parin walls olf a )articular trie that is walls composed entirely oi plaster.
Such walls 5 are relatively thin and means should he provided for securely mounting and holding a.
'door frame therein without likelihood oi cracking of the plaster around 'the frame. The result is accomplished hy providing a rigid and unyielding metal buck and arranging the parts in suoli manner that a wood jamh and wood trim may be applied thereto without diiiicult operations.
The invention will he more readily understood by referring to the accompanying drawings7 in which- F ig. l is a perspective sectional view through a portion ot wall and traine arranged in accordance with my invention; 2 is a sectional view on the line 22,]E1`ig. l, and
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary front elevation.
the drawings I have illustrated a com hin ation olf elements comprising a metal member of angle torni extending troni the iloor l() to the ceiling l1 and suitably anchored thereto.
One ol the legs l2 oi" the angle prol vides means tor attachment of metal lath 13 while the other leg 14 is welded or otherwise rigidly secured to the wel) l5 of a generally channel shaped met-al buck.
The side lianges intervals in the height of the channelshaped buck I insert a block i8. The block is ot generally rectangular outline7 the back side thereof being shaped to provide a tapered projection lf) litting snugly Within the tapered 'recess within the flanges 16 of the channel.
2O are driven through the sides of the Serial No. 259,433.
channel. into the wood block thus securely holdin: the same in position. Nailed to the :tace oi the hloelr is a jamlo 2l and a stop 22. Molding or trim elements 23 are provided at the opposite sides in the usual manner.
rilhus I have provided a thin wall frame of unusual strength an d rigidity and so arranged the parts that a wood traine or trim may be easily applied thereto. In addition, I have provided means for securely anchoring the buck to the floor and ceiling by means oi a metal angle so positioned as to furnish the n'iazzinium rigidity for the Weight of material y employed.
rIhe exact form and arrangement of the parts is not essential for the accomplishment oit the desired purpose and I do not wish to be limited except as indicated in the appended claims,
I claim:
l. In combination. an angular metal member adapted to extend froinfloor to ceiling` ay metal buck secured thereto7 said buck heing oi generally channel shape and having marginal Jflanges acting as a plaster ground, wood hl cks secured in said channel, and a jamb and trim secured to said blocks.
Q. In combination, a metal post secured t0 floor and ceiling, a channel buck, the web of F which is secured to said post7 the [ianges of the channel terminating in narrow marginal strips that lievin a plane parallel to the web, the edges oit' the strips acting as plaster grounds., wood blocks :fitted in the channel, and wood trim secured to the blocks.
3. In combination, a metal post secured to floor and ceiling, a channel buck, the web of which is secured to said post7 the flanges of the channel terminating in narrow marginal strips that lie in a plane parallel to the web, the edges ot the strips acting as plaster grounds, the 'flanges of the channel being flared to provide an inwardly tapered recess, and wood blocks itted :in said :recess at intervals in the height of the buck, and providing means for attachment of trim.
4f. ln combination a channel shaped buck, means for securing he same between Jhe floor ncl ceiling7 the flanges 0In the Channel shaped bueh terminating in marginal strips that lie in a plane parallel to the Web of Jshe channel, the edges of the srps Let-mg as plasceq grounds, Wood blocks m the chalmel and Wood trim secured bo the blocks.
In testimony whereof I have axecl my signature.
