Description
A. PFEIF FER Get. 1, 1929.
FASTENER Filed May 28. 1927 ATTORNEY Patented Get. 1, 1929 UNETEE ADOLPI-I PFEIFFER, OF CHICAGO, ILLENOIS FASTENEB Application filed. May as,
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in fasteners, and more particularly to a fastener which can be conveniently used for detachably connecting the ends of a strap or similar article.
One of the objects of my invention is the provision of a fastener which may be quickly and easily applied to one end of a strap or strip of material and provided with means whereby the other end of the strap or the like can be quickly and detachably connected to the fastener to bring the strap into close proximity to each other.
- Another object of the invention is the provision of a fastener which, while particularly adapted to fasten the ends of a strap used as a head band or the like, is simple in construction, economical, and useful for many purposes.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in the claim, and shown in the accompanying drawings: wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a head strap showing my improved fastener applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of one form of my improved fastener.
Figure 3 is a plan view of another form of my improved fastener.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line i& of Figure 3.
For the purpose of illustrating the use of my invention I have shown in the drawings a head strap 1, which may be used for supporting visors or similar articles. has attached thereto a cross strap 2 which goes over the top of the head to assist in sup porting the strap 1, and the intermediate portion of strap 2 is connected to the strap 1 by means of a third strap 3 forming a suitable head gear.
My improved fastener comprises a body plate 4 having formed in one end thereof spaced slots 5 and 6, the slots 5 being arranged upon opposite sides of the slot 6 and each having the edge nearest the slot 6 formed 50 with teeth 7, whereby the end of a strap may The strap 1 1927. serm No. 195,114.
be fed through the slots with the strap ar 3 ranged over the bar portion between the innermost slot 5 and slot 6. It will. be apparent from the foregoing that when the end of a strap is fed through the slots in the above manner, the teeth will engage the strap and restrain the same from Withdrawal.
The end of the plate 4 opposite the slots 5 and 6 is extendedlaterallyand formed with teeth 8 adapted to bite into a strap forced against the teeth by means of a pivoted locking lever 9.
This lever 9 has one end pivoted to the plate at a point adjacent to the inner slot 5,
while the free end thereof is adaptedto swing over the teeth 8 in close proximity thereto, whereby a strap placed over the teeth will be forced against the same. Thus the fastener may be quickly and readily attached to one end of a strap while the other end of the strap may be readily attached to the fastener when desired.
In Figures 3 and i I have shown a modified form of the invention which comprises a body plate 10 having one end extended laterally and formed with teeth 11 while the other end is bent upon itself to form a sleeve 12. A locking member is provided in the form of a U shaped part 13, the ends of which are extended laterally across the U shaped 9 mounted in the sleeve 12 whereby the member I 13 is mounted for rocking movement. The other arm 15 forms means whereby the end of a strap may be readily secured to the fastener.
The bight portion of the member 13 is positioned so that when the member is moved toward the plate it will be in close proximity s From this, it will be apparent that one end of a strap may be formed with a loop 17 to y be slipped over the end of the arm 15, and
the other end of the strap may be engaged with the teeth 11 and retained against movement by the member 13.
From the above it will be readily apparent that I have provided an improved fastener of comparatively simple construction, wherein one end of a strap or strip of material may be readily attached to the fastener and the fastener then engaged With the other end of the strap. This device may be constructed in various ways and used for a great many purposes.
While I have shown and described the'preferred embodiments of my invention it will be apparent that various changes may be made in carrying out my idea without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
I claim as my invention:
A fastener of the class described including a body plate, laterally projecting teeth at one end, a sleeve at the other end, a rectangular shaped frame having its ends bent in opposite directions across the open end of the frame, one of said ends rotatably mounted in said sleeve, whereby the frame is movable toward and away from said teeth, and the other end attached to flexible material, said frame having its central portion positioned to cooperate With the teeth for'gripping an object placed therebetween, and a pivoted latch bar carried by the body plate and having its ends movable over the sides of the frame to retain the frame in operative position relative the teeth.
ADOLPH PFEIFFER.
