TONIS, GERMANY, ASSIGNOB' T0 THE FIRM MASCHINEN- FABBIK CARL ZANGS AXTIENGESELLCHAIT, 0F KREFELD, GERMANY DRIVE FOB DOBBY AND JACQUARD LOOMS Application led June 7, 1928, Serial No. 285,631A and in Germany Hay 3, 1927.
This invention relates to a drive for dobby and Jacquard looms.
rod gear with theV dobby orl jacquard machine. The piping and the cylinder are filled The connection between the loom and the with liquid, such as machine oil for example.
dobby or jacquard machine has hitherto been 5 established by the aid of one or more connect@J ing rods, connected with cranks or/eccentrics.
Since this method of drivin is not suitable for rather high speeds o revolution, a transition has been made to driving by means of a chain or a vertical revolvingu shaft.
. All these means of driving the shedding machine are complicated and subject to a great deal of wear. The transmission of the movement from the loom to the shedding machine' was always inaccurate' since the shedding machinehas tofollow the movements of the loom in point of time. Furthermore these transmission elements required a great deal of space, and formed a source of danger to the persons attending to the machines, since they were located outside the loom itself.
` The present invention obviates these disadvantages and provides a new means for t-ransmitting motion from the'loom to the shedding machine. Instead of the rigid machine elements hitherto employed, the present invention utilizes a column of liquid, such as is frequently employed in power-transmission machinery.
' The invention is illustrated by way 0f eX- .ample in one constructional form in the accompanying drawings, wherein Fig. 1 shows a loom with a jacquard machine in side elevation, and
, Fig. 2 shows the same apparatus'in front elevation.V
The method of operation of this apparatus is as follows :-In a stationary cylinder a 40 there moves a piston b, which is connected with an eccentric c of the loom by a lever d. By means of a pipe e, connection is estab- -lished with a cylinder f, which is likewise stationary. In this cylinder there moves a piston g, which is connected by connecting- Since oil is'practically incompressible, the dobby or jacquard machine, connected with the loom shaft s by the oscillating column of oil, must follow the movements thereof in point of time.
What I claim is 1. Driving means for communicating motion from looms to dobby and jacquard shedding machines, comprising a stationary cylinder on said loom, a piston capable of reciprocatingv in the cylinder, means for reciprocating said piston in synchronism with the l reciprocating movements of the loom, a stationary cylinder on the shedding machine, a secon piston adapted to reciprocate in said second cylinder, and a pipe adapted to conltain a liquid, said pipe connecting the two cylinders with one another lin such a manner that said liquid communicates reciprocating movements from theloom piston tothe shedding-machine piston.
2. Driving means for communicating motion from looms to dobby and jacquard machines, comprising a stationary cylinder on said loom, a piston capable of reciprocating in thecylinder, an eccentric on the loom, a lever adapted to communicate reciprocating movements to the piston from the eccentric, a stationary cylinder on the shedding machine,
a second piston adapted to reciprocate in said second cylinder, and a pipe adapted to contain, a liquid, said pipe connecting the two so cylinders with one another in such a manner that said liquid communicates reciprocating. movements from the loom piston to the shedding-machine piston, and a connecting rod adapted to communicate reciprocating mvements from thesecond piston to the lshedding l machine.
3. Driving means for communicating motion in Jacquard looms, comprising a shed-A ding mechanism, a main driving shaft for 9 the loom, a hydraulic actuatinA device operatively connectedto said sha t so as to be capable of actuation by the shaft, a hydraulic actuating device operatively connected to said shedding mechanism so as to be capable ofdriving the shedding mechanism and a pipe connected to said hydraulic actuating devices and adapted to contain a liquid for transmitting power from said first-mentioned actuating device to said second-mentio ed actuating device, for the purpose of ansmitting motion from said shaft to aid shedding mechanism.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification'.
