7 My invention relates to power jacks; and the object is to provide simple and powerful jacks for use with air-compressors, pumps, and various machines which may be operated 1 with a crank, and to provide power jacks which are simple in operation and construction and which can be operated with little power., One advantage is that a machine with a small amount of power may be employed so that there will be a saving in fuel and labor. Another advantage is that the power jack is provided with certain automatically shifted weights which effect a saving in power. Other objects and advantages 5 will be fully explained in the following description and the invention will be more particularly pointed out in the claims.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the improved power jack. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the gearing for shifting the walking beam for lengtheningthe strokes. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the same, Figs. 3 and 4 being enlarged views. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of. a power jack, including certain variations. Fig. 6 is a plan view of the jack shown in Fig 5.
Similar characters of reference are used to indicate the same parts throughout the several views.
The improved power jack has a two-part frame,one part being the gearing frame and the other part being the frame for the power levers. The gear frame has duplicate lower beams 1 except that one of the lower beams 1 forms (by an extension) one of the lower-beams of the power lever frame. The
gear 'frame has duplicate uprights 2 and duplicate upper longitudinal beams .3 and 4, the beam 3 being connected to one of the upright members 11 of the lever frame. Theduplicate beams 1 and the beams 3 and 4 are connected by bolts 6 at the upper and lower parts and these bolts may be provided with sleeves between the beams to space the beams apart. The bolts are provided with nuts 7. The lever frame has uprights 8 and 9 and inclined uprights 10 and 11 which'are con nected atv their upper ends by short longitudinal beams 12. Theinclined upright 11 is rigidly connected to the upper beam 3 of 'the gear frame and rigidly connected to the adjacent lower beam of the gear frame. The
lever frame has on one side-a lower longi- -28. The lever 28 has a number of uprights 10 and 11 at the bottom and also connects the beams 1 of the gear frame.
Sleeves 18 may be placed on the bolt 17 between the connected elements.
The machine is provided with a power pulley or wheel 19 which is rigid with the shaft 20 and a balance wheel 21 is rigid with the shaft 20. A pinion 22 is rigid with shaft 20 and meshes with and drives a cog wheel 23 which is rigid with shaft 24. A crank 25 is rigid with shaft 24 and this crank is pivotally connected to a pitman 26. The crank 25 is rigid with its bolt 27 and a power lever 28 is rigid with the same bolt 27 so that the crank 25 and the lever 28 move at the same time. The power of the pitman bar 26 is transmitted to a lever or lower walking beam 29 and the power of the lever 28 is transmitted to a pitman bar or rod 39.
A movable or shifting fulcrum bar 31 is pivotally connected to the lower walking beam 29. A pair of bearing and guide members 31" are rigid with the upper end of the fulcrum bar 31. The machine is provided with an upper walking beam 32 and a support 33 is rigid therewith. The support 33 has a gear segment 34 and gear segment 35 is rigid with the guide and bearing members 31'. Link bars 36 are pivotally connected to the support 35 and to the bearing members 31. In this manner, the upper beam 32 is operatively connected to the lower walking beam 29 and the object of this manner of connection is to lengthen the stroke of the upper walking beam and the connecting rod 36' beam 32 and the connecting rod 36 is pivotally connected to the brackets 37. At the other end of the walking beam 32, brackets 38 are provided and rigid with the walking beam 32. A pitman 39 is pivotally connected to the brackets 38 and to the lever 1t holes so that the pitman rod 39 may be connected thereto at different-adjustments for increasing or decreasing the length of the strokes of the walking beam. The walking beam is provided with a brace rod 40 which is atlrackets 37 are attachedv to the walking tached to the brackets 37 and 38 and spaced from the beam 32' by an upstanding lug or support 41. Antifriction rollers 42 are provided to prevent friction of the fulcrum bar 31 in its vertical movements.
The power jack shown in Figs. and 6 has frame elements similar to frame elements shown in the previous views and the driving mechanism is the same. The wheel 23 drives a crank which actuates a pitman rod 51 which is pivotally, connected to a walking beam 52. The walking beam 52 is actuated from the drive wheel 23. The drive wheel 23 is rigid withshaft 24. A
' weight 53 is slidably mounted on the beam 52 and provided with antifriction rollers 54 to relieve friction. The beam 52 has a slot 55 therein for the pivot bolt 56.
Means are provided for shifting the weight 53 automatically towards and from the fulcrum 57 of the walking beam 52. A lever 58 is fulcrumed on the frame of the machine by a pivot shaft 59. A link bar 60 is pivotally connected to the lever 58 and pivotally connected to the pitman rod 51. The lever 58 is a two pronged or two armed lever and the two arms of the lever 58 are pivotally connected to link bars 61 and the link bars 61 are pivotally connected to the weight 53. The weight 53 will be moved simultaneously with the moving of the pitman rod 51.
The walking beam 32 is fulcrumed in a pair of levers 62 which are fulcrumed in the upper part of the frame by means of a pivot shaft 68. The levers 62 are pivotally con nected to link bars 64 and the link bars 64 are pivotally connected to cranks 65. The wheel 23 will actuate the levers 62'through the cranks 65 and linkbars 64. A weight 66 aids inbalancing the weight 53.
In operation the weight 53 is shifted to the outer end ofthe lever or walking beam 52 for the purpose of balancing the weight 66, and the object of this action is to obtain the combined effect of both weights in raising the load. On the down stroke of the sucker rod. the weight 53 is automatically shifted to-its inward limit and the weight 66 goes down and rests on the beam 32 by reasonof the lug" 67. This action will tend to elevate the outer end of the beam 52. For a portion of/the downstroke, the lug 67 w1l1 bear on the beam 32 and during such time both beams 32 and 52 act as one beam.
For a portion of the upstroke, the beam 52 draws the weight 66 up against the beam,

as one beam. The fulcrums 57 aiid 63 both move during operation. The levers '62 are fulcrumedonfa pivot bar or shaft 68. All the levers and, link bars and the pitman rod are timed to work inuni'son with the drive wheel 23,. by reason of the cranks which are actuated by the drive wheel 23.
The elements 62 are called levers above,
but the two elements form a walking beam and the functions correspond to the functions of the walking beam- 29. Various changes in the sizes, proportions, constructionv and arrangements of the several parts may be made without departing'from my invention.
What I 'claim, is, v
1. A power jack having a. power walking beam and an operating walking beam, a power mechanism operatively connected to one end of said power walking beam for actuating the same, a movable fulcrum for said operating walking beam carried by the other end of said power walkingbeam, and segmental gearingfoperatively connected to said movable fulcrum and with said operating walking beam for'increasing the stroke of said operating walking beam.
