Description

FooT-WARMING s'r'ovE.
:Patented Jan. 25,1976.

UNITED STATES PATENT @Errea EDWARDS A. REED, OF OLIVER SPRINGS, TENNESSEE.
IMPROVEMENT IN FOOT-WARMING STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,773, dated January 25, 1876; application filed December 18, 1875.
To all whinm it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARDS A. REED, of Oliver Springs, Anderson county, Tennessee, have' invented a new and Improved Foot- Warming Stove, of which the following is a specification Figure l represents a vertical longitudinal section on line c c, Fig. 2, of my improved footc Warming stove, and Fig. 2 is an end view of the same, with the outer door opened.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention relates to providing the outer box or case of the foot-stove With guards or braces for supporting the chimney, and forming a handle by which to carry the' same.
In the drawing, A represents the outer casing, made ot' suitable size and of sheet metal, so as to be readily carried and placed in position in the Wagon, sleigh, or other place Where the foot-warmer is intended to be used. The casing A is provided with a door, B, at one end, and a chimney at the other end, the chimney being made of pieces of different length to establish the required draft and convey the smoke to the outside. Guards or fenders D, of semicircular shape, are attached to the top part ot' the casing A, and also connected to the chimney, to give additional support to the chimney and to each other, by a bar, D', Which serves as a handle by which to carry the stove about. An interior boX or furnace E, of somewhat smaller size than the casing A, is slid into the same, and retained by guard pieces a near the ends, and by a shoulder or rabbet, s, formed along the side and near the top of the casing, so that a heating-space is formed around the tops and sides of the box or .furnace E.
The fuel is placed in the box E by a hinged door, b, at the end, which corresponds by airholes b and a regulating-damper, d, with the aperture e ofthe door of the casing, and by a top aperture, f, with the chimney. rlhe required supply oi' air is thus introduced to the fuel in the furnace, and a slower or 'quicker combustion oi' the same produced, according as a greater or less degree of heat for warming purposes is required. The furnace E may be Withdrawn by a handle or` ring, g, from the casing, and uscdin detached state for cooking purposes, which may be of considerable advantage in traveling. As the combustion of fuel and the degree of heat produced thereby are fully Within control, the foot-warming stove forms a very cheap, comfortable, and practica-ble device for keeping the feet and other parts ofthe body Warm in places exposed to cold.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patenty l. The semicircular braces D, and the connecting top bar, in combination with the case A and chimney C, as shown and described.
2. The outer casing, having top guards or fenders, substantially as specified.
