provements in the form, construction andv arrangements of the parts whereby the above named and other objects may be effectively attained.

I am well aware of the fact that quite a number of inventions in this particular field have been made and patents secured, but as far as I could ascertain not a single one of these improved dress shields has permanent- 1y found its way into the trade. Either they proved to be too complicated, and therefore too expensive or too cumbersome for the wearer, or last but not least, were so difficult to place into or out of position that women resorted to fixing the shields by safety pins if they took not the pains to sew them on. My invention avoids all these disadvantages, is very simple in construction and therefore inexpensive to manufacture.

A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 represents a side elevation of my improved dress-shield showing the means of fastening the same to the garment,

The dress-shield shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive comprises two members 1 and 2. The two members are sewed together along the peripheral edges as indicated by the dotted line 3. The bights 4-5 of the inner and outer members l2 respectively are only connected at the ends by the stitches 3. Adjacent the bight 4: of the inner member '2 there is provided a series of elongated slots 6, arranged in pairs, as shown in Fig. 8. In order to secure the dress-shield to the arm scye 7 of the garment 8, I provide fastening means preferably in the form of metal clamps, each of which comprises arms 910 connected at 11. The clamps are attached to the inner members by inserting the arms 9-1O through a pair of slots 6 so the arms 910 will project therethrough in position 'to be pinched on the arm scye 7 of the garment 8. The arms 910 may be provided with teeth 12 which penetrate the garment and enter apertures 13 in the opposite arm and in register therewith.

'In the modified form shown in Fig. 4 the dress-shield 14 consists of a single member only having flexible loops 15 of thread or other suitable material secured thereto, upon each of which loops 15 a clamp is arranged to straddle and engage the arm scye of the garment. From the foregoing it will be seen that. the dress-shield will be securely fastened to the garment, and easily and readily removed if desired. Furthermore, one advantageous feature of my invention is the fact that the metal clamp is protected and cannot come in contact with or touch the flesh of the wearer when in use.

It is obvious that various changes may be resorted to in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit. and scope of my invention; and hence, I do not intend to be limited to the details herein shown and described except as they may be included in the claims.

WVhat I claim is:

1. A dress-shield provided with at least one bifurcated fastening device adapted to engage the garment, and means on opposite sides of the bight of the shield for receiving said device in straddled relation for removably holding and concealing the device.

2. A dress-shield provided with a series of holes adjacent the bight and at least one bifurcated fastening device having its free ends arranged to project through said holes 5 in position to engage the garment. 4

3. A clress sliield provided with an inner and an outer member, said inner member having a series of holes adjacent the bight, and at least one bifurcated fastening device having its free ends arranged to project 10 through said holes in position to engage the garment MARIANNE HOFFMANN.
