N'o.172,674. Patented Jan. 25, 1876.

NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN B. TYLER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO FRANCIS PEROIVAL, or SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT? IN FOLDING ,FOOTSTOOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,674, dated January 25, 1876; application filed 1 November 27, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN B. TYLER, of Brooklyn, in the State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Folding Footstool, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in the arrangement ot'a footstool with jointed legs, ca-
pable of folding together, in combination with a bag or bags or pockets, made of a soft and warm material, fastened to the top of the stool to receive the ends of the feet, and so arranged that said bags or pockets can be turned over and placed in the under side of the stool, and the legs of the stool folded over the same for the purpose of facilitating the carrying or transporting of the same.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure I represents a frontview of my improved footstool, in a position ready for use. Fig. II is a cross-section of the same, and Fig. III represents a front view of the stool folded together.
A is the top plate of the footstool, provided with sides B, to which the legs (J G are hinged. Upon the top of the stool bags or pockets D D are arranged, made of a soft, warm material, such as flannel, woolen, or similiar materials, sufficiently large to insert the feet. These bags or pockets are attached by hands a to the one side of the stool, and fastened by a similar band, a, to the other side. When not in use, or when desired to transport the same, the bags D are turned over by unfastening the band or strap a, and are laid into the under side of the stool, and the legs 0 O folded over the same, as represented in Fig. 1H, and are then easily carried about from place to place.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A portable footstool, consisting of the top plate A, with folding legs 0 (J, in combination with bags or pockets 1), made of soft and warm material, and attached by bands or straps n and a to the stool, arranged in the manner and for the purpose substantially as described.
