rlhis invention relates to a fastening device for use as an appendage upon clothing' for the purpose of fastening buttons thereto and for the purpose vof being used in pairs and to be connected one withthe other as a substitute for buttons. y
One of the objects of the invention is to provide fastening devices which will avoid the use of buttonholes in clothing. Y
Another object is to provide fastening de'- vices which may be used as'substitutes for buttons and which may be more conveniently connected than is provided for a connection of a button in a button-hole.
Another object is to provide fastening devices which may be manufactured at a very limited expense and which may be used in cases of emergency for securing one part of a fabric to another or securing one part of clothing to another part in instances where these parts cannot otherwise be conveniently connected.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the description and will particularly be pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that the fastening device described herein inay have any suitable proportion, size or form and that it is not herein mentioned limited to exactness of the details.
In the accompanying drawing, Fig. 1 is a view showing a pair of the fastening devices secured to fabrics, the same being shown in connected position and the fabric portions L, being shown in section. y
Fig. 2 is a view showing a single fastening device employed and a button attached thereto, the fabric being shown in section.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the outer sideof the device secured to a fabric element, the inner side of the device and circular part thereof being shown in dotted lines.
Referring now to the particular description, the device consists of a metallic strand bent to form a circular part-or holder element indicated at 10, said strand being bent from said holder inwardly or centrally therefrom to provide an arm 11 approximately of rectilinear form, said arm being bent at approximately right angles therefrom to provide a neck 12.
The strand is then bent from the neck 12 outwardly to provide a hook 13 having an drawing for a more elongated tang 14. The strand is then bent to return upon the tangand hook, to theref 'by re-enforce said hook, the remaining 'part' of the metallic strand providing a'rectilinear arm 15, adapted to lie in the plane of the arm 11, said strandbeing bent from the arm 15 to provide a second circular terminal holder 16. The terminal part of the circle 10 is sharpened as indicated at 17.`
Numeral 18 indicates a fabric element and 1n operation to mount the device on the fabric, the sharpened end-portion 17 of the circular part 10 is inserted in the fabric to pass therethrough and the. device is thenl rotated in the same manner as the use of a cork screw, this rotation being continued until the neck engages in the fabric, at which time the second circular part 16 will engage the opposite side of the fabric, the hook being disposed outwardly of this second holder or circular part, the tang being disposed closely adjacent to this second circular holder.
The metallic strand is constructed of resilient material and it will be understood that the circular holders 10 and 16 will be pressed toward each other and will firmly grip the fabric.
Vhen a pair of these devices are used for connecting one part of the clothing to another part, the hooks of the two devices are connected one with the other, one of the devices being rotated until its hook is disposed at right-angles to the other hook, this being shown in Fig. 1.
Y As shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing, the device may be connected with a button 19, the hook engaging in the eye 2O of the button.
It will be appreciated that the device may be manufactured very economically and that it will be effective as a holding means for connecting two parts of a garment, and that when the two devices have been connected, they will normally remain in connected position, the tang 14 normally being disposed closely adjacent to or in engagement with the second circular holder 16. It will be noted that the tang 14 has a length sufficient to extend outwardly for engaging this circular holder.
I. claim as my invention 1. In a fastening device, a metallic strand having an end-portion bent to a circular form to provide a holder-member and bent from its circular end-portion to provide a Cil rectilinear part extending centrally of said circular end-portion, and bent at approximately right-angles from said rectilinear part to provide a neck and bent from the neck to form a hook outwardly of said neck, the remainder of said strand being bent from said hook to form a second circular holder-member normally disposed in a plane intermediate said hook and the first named holder-member'.
2. In a fastening device for a fabric element, a strand having an end-portion bent to form a circular holder to lie upon one side of the fabric, a neck bent from said circular holder' to extend through said fabric, and bent from said neck to form a hook and bent from said hook to providea second holder to lie upon that side of the fabric opposite to said rst named circular holder.
3. In a fastening device, a metallic strand bent. to provide a holder element, a neck disposed in a plane approximately at right angles to the plane of said element7 and a part bent from said neck to provide a hook having an elongated tang, and another part bent from said hook to provide a second holder element.
4. In a fasteningr device for a fabric element, a metallic strand providing a neck adapted to engage in the fabric and having a circular part adapted to engage one side thereof, and providing a second circular part adapted to engage the opposite side of the fabric, that partV of the strand between the neck and last named circular part being bent to provide a terminal normally engaging said second circular part.
5. In a fastening device for a fabric element, a metallic strand bent to provide a circular part with a. sharpened terminal and a neck adapted to traverse said fabric to dispose its circular part at one side thereof, said strand being bent to provide a second circular part for engaging the opposite side of the fabric and to form a hook between the second part and said neck.
