TOY.
Application led September 18, 1928. Serial No. 306,721.
This invention relates to figured toys and aims to provide a figured toy which may be operated by its Contact with the ground surface or propelled by wind pressure directed against a propeller.
Another object of the invention is to provide a toy including a body portion in 'the form of an animal or bird, and a figure mounted on the body portion, the figure simulating a man having movable arms, the arms being operated by certain mechanism carried by the body portion.
vWith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter 'de scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the preciseveinbodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a toy constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional View taken on line 2-*2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fragmental perspective view illustrating the connection between the movable arm of the ligure and the body portion.
Figure 4 is a fragmental detail view illustrating the means for operating the toy by air pressure.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the body portion of the toy is indicated generally by the reference character 5 and has the general conguration of a turkey or bird, however it is to be understood that the general design of the body portion may be changed to meet various requirements.
The head of the body portion is indicated by the reference character 6 and is pivotally mounted on the body portion, at'7, the legs of the body portion being indicated at 8, and as shown are pivotally connected with the body portion at 9.
Formed integral with the body portion is an upwardly extended portion 1() that provides the support for the body of the figure mounted on the body portion 5, the body of the figure being indicated by the reference character 11. As shown, the body of the figure is pivotally mounted at 12, and is constructed to simulate a man. Formed in the portion 10, is a curved slot 13, while directly above the curved slot 13 is an clon gated opening 14 disposed at an oblique angle with respect to the slot 13, the slot and opening being designed to accommodate the pins 15 and 16 respectively that extend laterally from the arm 17.
Openings are formed in the body 11 and are disposed opposite to the slot 13 and opening 14 so that the pins 15 and 1G may extend through the openings of the body 11 in such a way as to cause the arm 17 to move to a position as shown by dotted lines in figure 1, when the body 11 is moved forwardly.
Associated with the arm 17, is a plate 18 which is secured to the body 11 by means of the screw 19, the plate being SuppOltGd tion against movement with the result that as the body 11 is tilted forwardly, the arm 20 moves therewith. A strap 21 is secured in the hand 22 formed at the forward end 'of the arm, which strap connects with the band 23 that surrounds the neck of the body portion 5. It follows that as the body 11 moves forwardly the head 6 will move forwardly by gravity, and will be returned to its normal upright position when the body 11 assumes its upright position.
Depending from the under side of the body 5, is a supporting plate 24 which supports the gear 25 to which the arm 26 is eccentrically secured, the upper end of the arm 26 being connected to the pin 27 that extends through an elongatedcurved opening 28 formed in the body, the inner end of the pin 27 having connection with the body 11, as clearly shown by Figure 2 of the drawing. a
Links 29 are connected with the pin 27 and have connection with the leg members 8 in such a way that when the links are moved, the leg members 8 will be moved to cause them to operate in-a manner to simulate the action of an animals legs in running.
A handle indicated at 30 extends from the body portion 5 and affords means whereby a person may move the device over a surface whereupon the teeth of the gear 25 will bite into the surface causing theV gear to rotate and operate the various movable elements of the toy in a manner as described.
Should it be desired to use the device as an ornament for radiator caps or the like, bearing members such as indicated at 31 are provided, in Which bearing members the shaft 32 is mounted, the shaft carrying a Worm 33 that meshes with the gear 25 so that rot-ary movement of the shaft 32 will produce a relative rotary movement of the gear 25. On the forward end of the shaft 32 is a propeller 34; which Will be held into the Wind to cause rotary movement ot the shaft 32, When the device is moved through the air.
It is thought that in View ot the foregoing detail description, a further detail description oit the operation oic the device Will be unnecessary.
I claim:
l. In a figured toy, a body, a member piv otally mounted on the body, a curved slot formed in the body, movable leg` members, links connected with the leg; members, a pin connecting the links at their upper ends, said pin extendingthrough the pivoted member and having` its free end disposed in the slot, an arm connected with the pin, and means connected with the arm for reciprocating the arm to move the legineinbers.
2. In a figured toy, abody, a member pivotally mounted on the body, said body hav ing a curved elongated openiirg` and having' an elongated opening disposed at an oblique angle With respect to the curved opening, an
arm having pins disposed in the openings, means tor securing` the arm to the member pivotally mounted on the body, and means for moving` the member pivotally mounted on the body to cause the pins to move in the openings to move the arm simultaneously With the pivoted member.
3. n a figured toy, a body, a pivoted member mounted on the body, leg,v members mount-ed on the body, links connecting the leg members and pivoted member, a gear mounted on the body and adapted to move over the ground surface, an arm pivotally connected with the gear and connected with the links to operate the pivoted body, and an arm-mounted on the piveted .member to swing vertically as the pivoted member moves on the body.
e. ln a figured toy, a body portion, a figured member Apivotally mounted on the body portion, means connected. with the pivoted member for swinging the pivoted member on its pivot, an arm having pins extending' laterally therefrom and operating", in slots formed in the body portion to swing the arm vertically as the pivotcd member rocks on its pivot and means for holding` the arm against lateral movement.
In testimony that l claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aliixed my signature.
