Description

L. s. WEED. BED-CLOTHES'HOLDER No 172 358. Patented Jan. 18, 1876.
N. PETERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHEFL WASHINGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES.
PATENT QrrIoE.
LEVI S. WEED, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN BED-CLOTHES HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,358, dated J anuary 18, 1876; application filed September 15, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEVI S. WEED, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Bed-Clothes Holder; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, 0 6m, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-- Figure 1., front view; Fi g. 2, side view, showing the manner of securing the clothes.
This invention relates to a device for securing the bed-clothes over children, so as to preit their being thrown off; and it consists of fspring turn-button arranged in connection with a fixedjaw, and between which the clothes re so fil'lllly grasped as to be very difficult of hccidental removal.
i A is the base, by which the device is secured to the cradle or crib, and constructed with an (overhanging jaw, B. On the base a flat or suitable spring, C, is pivoted, as at a, so as to turn freely on the pivot. The other end is provided with a pad, D, the tendency of the 1 spring being to force the pad against the over- 1 hanging or fixed jaw B, and with considerable power.
Thus constructed, the device is fixed to the sides of the cradle or crib, either outside or inside, the pad turned to one side, as indicated in broken lines, Fig. 1, the clothes folded up in rear of the jaw B, and the pad returned, as indicated in Fig. 2. The spring produces sufticient friction to hold the clothing within the grasp of the pad.
To prevent the button turning to release the clothes, a stop, E, is arranged on the side to-- Ward which the strain comes, and so that the button cannot be turned in that direction. The stop is made in a separate piece, to be applied withthe holder, so that the same stop may bensed either for the head or foot.
1 do not broadly claim a device for securing bed-clothing, as such, I am aware, is not new; but
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described bed-clothes holder, consisting of the combination of the base A, the overhanging jaw B, and the pivoted spring-i pad C l), and stop E, substantially as described.
