UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARION P. WOLFE AND EDWIN M. HENKEL, OF OBAWEORDSVILLE, IND.
IMPROVEMENT IN LEACHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172.233, dated January 11, 1876 application filed August 14, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, MARION P. WOLFE and EDWIN M. HENKEL, of Orawfordsville, in the county of Montgomery and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Leach, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a sectional front elevation of my leach Fig. 2, a vertical central longitudinal section of the same on the line 0 a, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3, a horizontal section on the line as as, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be described in connection with drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
vided with channels a that convey the lye to an exit opening and spout, b, for being drawn off. The remaining ashes are shoveled out througha hinged side door, d, and introduced to the inside of the receptacle through a hinged top door, 01. A water-reservoir, E, with perforated bottom, forms the top of the leach, and serves to distribute the water equally over the ashes. The reservoir is filled through a top-hole, c, and spreads the water over the surface, extracting the alkali, as it sinks slowly through the ashes, in uniform manner therefrom. The ash-receptable can be taken apart'for being shipped, and is readily set up on its base part.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent I The ash-receptacle and leach having inclined and channeled bottom, and a top reservoir with perferated bottom to distribute the water and draw off the lye, substantially as set forth.
MARION P. WOLFE. EDWIN M. HENKEL.
