. This invention relates to a new and useful 'machine for securing identification seals to furs, skins, silks, or thelike in bolts, which are sent outto be treated, cured or dyed. In an an application Serial No. 212,699, filed simultaneously with this application, the identification seal disclosed herein has been claimed.
The objectof the invention is to provide a machine of the class described embodying a means of punching holes in the articles to whichthe identification seal is to be secured to, in combination with a means of placing the seal in place and crimping the seal so as to securely attach the same to the article. I
A further-object of the invention is to provi'de a machine of the class described of novel construction and arrangements of parts herematter more fully described, clalmed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

As here embodied my improved device comprises a platform 10, or base element, horizontally disposed and supported by the downwardly extended elements 11, or legs. The lever 12, provided with a handle element 13, pivotally attached as at 14, to the arm 15, secured to and extended from the guide 16.
The slide 17 is slidably mounted in the guide 16 and has secured thereto, and extended therefrom pins 18 and 19, adapted to engage in elongated openings 20 and 21, respectively formed intermediate the lever 12. The magazine 22, or hopper is of tubular, rectangular transverse cross-section, and is secured to and extended vertically from the bracket 22, and is adapted to hold the engaging members 23, and has formed therein an opening 24, at one side thereof, for the purpose of permitting the said engaging members to be positioned-or placed in the said magazine. The said engaging members are positioned or placed in a verticalcolumn, or pile therein. The slide 17 has secured thereto, a finger member 25 adapted to engage or strike the engaging member 26, p0- sitioned at the bottom of the above mentioned vertical column. The above described 'construction is such that the lever 12, when manually pulled or forced outwardly, will cause the finger member 25, to engage or strike the engaging member 26, as a means of sliding the said engaging member, from the vertical column, inwardly into the elongated opening 27, or slot formed in the table 29. The lever 12 is normally held in an inward position by means of the tension spring 30, attached to the above mentioned pin 18, and to the pin 31 secured to the guide 16. The table 29 is mounted on and extended from the platform 10.
The lever 33, provided with a handle element 3 1, is pivotally attached as at 35, to the arm 36," secured to and extended from the guide 37. The slide 38 is slidably mounted in the guide 37 and has secured thereto and extended downwardly therefrom a pin 39, held in engagement with or in contact interniediately with the lever 33 by means of the tenson spring 40, secured to the pin 39, and to the guide 37. The guide 37 is secured as at 37 by bolts, screws or the like to the extended portion 67 of the support 67. The stop 36 is mounted in and extended from the guide 37, as a means of limiting the movement of the slide 38. The cover 18 is secured as at 19 to the guide 37. The guide 37 is adapted to guide the slide 38. The magazine 41, or hopper is of tubular, rectangular cross section, and is secured to and extended vertically from the guide 37, and is adapted to hold the identification seals 42. The said identification seals 42 are positioned or placed in. a vertical column, or pile in the said hopper, havingtheir extended. elements "attended downwardly; slidably Flikh ..v. Q

'The. pedal 50, or treadle, is pivotally secured atone extremity as at 51, to a rodhorizontally disposed and secured to two of the adjacent legs 11. The pedal 50- is provided with anon-larged free extremity 52,

V The above described construction is such as will permit the movable head 77 to he slid downwardly when the pedal 50 is depressed, the bellerank 62, the links 68 and 69 and the link 72, assuming a somewhat downward I position, as designated by the reference nu merals 62, 69 and 72 respectively. The above described construction is such as Wlll permit my mproved device to'funm tion as follows. A further, or additional depression of the pedal 50, causes the free extremitylOl of the lever 56, to engage the extended portion 125, of the lever 125, and this lever engages the enlarged extremity 106 of the rod 102, and raises the rod102, which causes the slides 119 and 120 to be forced outwardly by means of the links 110 and 111, and permits the engaging member to drop on the upper extremity of the rod 102 and be supported thereby. Upon further depression of the pedal 50, the levers 91' and 92, engage or strike the adjustable stops 126 and 127, respectively, threadedly mounted in the brack- 'et 126', secured as at- 127, to the extended portion 67 of the above mentioned support 67, causing the said levers to disengage the rod 86, permitting the rod 86 to move relatively upwards with relation to the head 77 and against the action of spring 88, which will permit the lower extremity of the cap 95, to engage the seal, as clearly shown in Fig. 5, as a-means of crimping the extended portions of the said seal into the apertures formed in the said engaging members, as clearly shown in Fig. 5 which will securely. attach the said seal to the said article 121.
'Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows '1. In a machine of the class described,-a
vmovable head having a cap with a downwardly extended element attached on its bottom, a rod slidably mounted in the said head and having projecting pins at its bottom ex- 2 tending thru the said downwardlyextended element and adapted for passing thru the openings of an identification seal, a spring normally urging the rod downwards, levers pivotally mounted on the said head and having their inner ends resting on the top of the rod'for restraining possible upward motion of the rod relative to the head while the head moves downwards, stops for abutting the outer ends of the levers during downward motion'of the head for freeing the rod so as to permit the same to move upwards relative to the head during the final stages of downward motion of the head for permitting the said pins to be moved from the openings in the seal, and springs for moving the said levers back to operative positions upon a raising of the head.

In a machine of the class described, a movable head having a cap with a downwardly extended element attached on its bottom, a rod slidably mounted in the said head and having projecting pins at its bottom extending thru the said downwardly extended element and adapted for passing thru the openings of an identification seal, a spring normally urging the rod downwards, levers pivmotion of the head for freeing the rod so as to permit the same to move upwards relative to the head during the final stages of downward motion of the head for permitting the said pins to be moved from the openings in the seal, and means for moving the said levers back to operative positions upon a raising of the head.

In a machine of the class described, a movable head having a cap with a downwardly extended element attached on its bottom, a rod slidably mounted in the said head and having projecting pins at its bottom extending thru the said downwardly extended element and adapted for passing thru the openings of an identification seal, a means for normally urging the rod downwards, levers pivotally mounted on the said head and having their inner ends resting on the top of the rod for restraining possible upward-motion of the rod relative to the head while the head moves downwards, stops for abutting the outer ends of the levers during downward motion of the head for freeing the rod so as to permit the same to move upwards relative to the head during the final stages of downward motion of the head for permitting the said pins to be moved from the openings in the seal, and springs for moving the said levers back to operative positions upon a raising of the head.
